The Census Worker Killing [UPDATE x3]

Bill Sparkman, a census worker in rural Kentucky, was found dead in Daniel Boone National Forest on September 12th, the date of the massive Tea Party Protest in Washington, DC, by people visiting a cemetery.

The AP reported on the incident in such a way as to stimulate leftist outrage. Among the details released was that he was hanged, that his truck was nearby with his computer for census work in it, and that he had the word "fed" scrawled on his chest.

Immediately, the HuffPo (citing a journalist's appearance on Maddow) and lefty bloggers including the singularly hapless Oliver Willis began to speculate wildly that this was the work of "tea baggers" who, worked into a hateful lather by the likes of Glenn Beck and Michelle Bachman, had decided to send a message to the federal government by murdering the man. Because the crime involved a federal worker, it is in the province of the FBI. Those who didn't jump the gun or state outright on the basis of slender evidence that the word "fed" definitely constituted a "slur," are to be commended.

The story didn't rally go national until about 10 days later, on the blogs, and what struck me immediately was the paucity of detail. It seemed odd, for example, that the investigators had not indicated whether any fingerprints not belonging to Mr. Sparkman or his family and friends were discovered on the vehicle or whether there were any signs of struggle, and didn't release a photo of the letterforms, which might have helped to identify a suspect. There's no indication even regarding what kind of instrument was used to write the letters. Stacy wrote about it yesterday, and I shared some of my concerns in his comments. Dan Riehl notes that there's a Wal-Mart in the area.

It seemed strange to me that in the intervening time, no new information had emerged that could be shared with the public. In fact, yesterday reporters seemed still to be waiting for autopsy results. Interestingly, the man's mother had been quoted as saying that she'd been told that it would be better to cremate the remains.

Given that, it might have been wise for some people not to speculate too wildly. Today, we find out that Mr. Sparkman's corpse was in contact with the ground when discovered, that investigators did not in fact find the computer in the truck, that it seems he died early on 11 September (when Obama was announcing his plans for a day of national service, and Joe Biden was at Ground Zero), and that the investigators have not to this point ruled out suicide or misadventure.

I tweeted about this, and Oliver Willis popped in to say that it was a good thing if "rightie nuts" didn't kill the man, but that it was inevitable that there would be a "another." A next time? Meanwhile, nary a peep about the insanity at the UN yesterday, Obama's donation of $400k to the charities of Qaddafi's children, the lunatic who floated the idea that Swine Flu was designed as a biological weapon (much like AIDS to Reverend Wright--and of course Obama didn't walk out this time, either), who inveighed against the evils of capitalism, whilst demanding investigations into MLK and JFK, among others. Some diplomats did walk out on Ahmadinejad, thankfully, but as Netanyahu railed today, WTF were they doing giving that anti-Semitic ass and holocaust denier a forum, anyway? The mainstreaming of crazy isn't taking place just in the Obama administration, obviously. I fist you not. And if some left-wing loon kills a Humana exec, you can be sure that Oliver will be all over Ed Schultz.

Today, too, Obama's pal Zelaya, who's holed up in the Brazilian Embassy in Honduras, thanks to Chavez and company, complained that Israeli security agents were poisoning him with mind-altering gases and radiation. And there was a riot in anticipation of the G20 Summit in Pittsburgh, where anarchist demonstrators complained that they were being deprived of their civil right to peaceably damage property.

Squidfucking assholes also want to take away your soft toilet paper. When is enough enough?

Scott and Liz are covering the G20 live this week on The B-Cast.

UPDATE: William Jacobson selects this as one of his posts of the day, thanks very much. And you should read what I've linked above about Obama and David Paterson, which connects to my post yesterday that connected to Darleen's post that she connects to, which I've just linked.

UPDATE x2: New AP article keeps hope alive, but braces proggs for disappointment, pointing out that there are other possible root causes for such an incident in this backwater part of Appalachia, some of which are similar to dangers in, say, Detroit.

UPDATE x3: Jammie Wearing Fool on the same page. La Malkin, too.

Duelling Douchebags: Yesterday’s UN Assembly

And that's leaving Obama out of the mix.

It was heartening that some diplomats left during Whackmadinejad's rambling anti-Semitic rant. Here's a little from Qaddaffy's shambolic stemwinder:

"If the Taliban wants to make a religious state, OK, like the Vatican," he said. "Does the Vatican constitute a danger against us? No."

It's true. The Vatican makes visitors to St. Peter's cover their shoulders. Also, they've permitted many stateless terrorist orgainizations to use their territory as a training and staging ground for attacks.

Gag Me

Darleen's got an excellent post up over at Protein Wisdom, talking about the administration's attempt to gag Humana health services, while at the same time not prohibiting the kick-back bought AARP from backing their ObamaCare plans, most importantly to eliminate Medicare Advantage, which is an obstacle to their plans. Axelrod's pathetic attempt to justify the administration's wish to get rid of Advantage, and not, for example, to rescind barriers to interstate coverage competition, tells you everything you need to know about the game that's afoot.

Remember that earlier Republicans were denied franking privileges for communiques to constituents characterizing Obama's proffered health care as "socialized" or even "government-run." Joe Wilson was admonished for hollering "you lie" to a President who had just accused all and sundry opposed to his health care plan for covering illegals of lying, despite the fact that the Gang of Six had to spend the rest of the evening retroactively making the President's representation of the plan true.

Characteristically, now that Christopher Andersen's book demonstrates that Jack Cashill's claim that Bill Ayers authored Dreams from My Father is true, the administration has pulled the scheduled CNN interview of a major administration figure, because CNN had also scheduled an interview with the author. The administration has also given Gordon Brown the cold shoulder, because he wouldn't play ball by claiming that Obama knew nothing about the release of the Lockerbie bomber on "humanitarian grounds," when in fact, despite his expressions of "disappointment" in their decision, the President had been in the loop all along. Goodness knows, Brown had his hands full dealing with the revelation that it wasn't merely Scotland's decision, after all.

As I've stated before, Obama's Achilles' heel is that he's a douchebag. This clueless Obama-ass-covering journalist at CBS is one, too.

In related news, bailed out banks have been funneling big bucks to ACORN, so maybe this hawala-esque arrangement obviates the need for direct government subsidy. Mind you, this is leaving "Diversity Czar" Mark Lloyd aside, entirely.

If it Looks and Sounds Creepy…

Look Familiar?

It should.

We shouldn't be surprised.

But don't take my word that he fancies himself a New Savior - take the "art" those who worship him produce.

obama_halo_1

Perhaps we should begin listening to the Holy among us again.

Just sayin' - I confess I am starting to get creeped out - and I don't have an incredibly sensitive creep-o-meter. This leads me to believe I am not alone in this sentiment.

UPDATE by Dan: I think this would be a good place to plug The Incomparable Iowahawk's latest.

When Sarah talks, CLSA listens

 Hong Kong Asia Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin addressed an audience at the CLSA Asia Pacific Markets Conference today.  Although the forum was not officially filmed, and closed to the media, reports of the happening in the Wall Street Journal and Breitbart are starting to emerge; along with some of Sarah's choice words:

Lack of government wasn’t the problem. Government policies were the problem. The marketplace didn’t fail. It became exactly as common sense would expect it to. The government ordered the loosening of lending standards. The Federal Reserve kept interest rates low. The government forced lending institutions to give loans to people who, as I say, couldn’t afford them. Speculators spotted new investment vehicles, jumped on board and rating agencies underestimated risks…

Ah, that lovely Palin common sense.  An interesting juxtaposition to Obama's apologies and ideological surrender, eh?  Read both of the linked pieces, especially the Wall Street Journal link.  And for more on this see ACE's take, and Allah Pundit; both AllahP and Breitbart have video to boot!

UPDATE: The Wall Street Journal has another full story on her speech.  And from a NY Times piece:

Mr. Goodé, a New Yorker who said he would never vote for Mrs. Palin, said she acquitted herself well.  “They really prepared her well,” he said. “She was articulate and she held her own. I give her credit. They’ve tried to categorize her as not being bright. She’s bright.”

Israelis? Get your things together,’cuz the bus is coming

Former US ambassador to the UN, John Bolton, rightly RIPS Obama on his UN speech. From "The Corner" at NRO:

“It was a very naïve, Wilsonian speech, and very revealing of Obama’s foreign policy,” says Bolton. “Overall, it was so apologetic for the actions of prior administrations, in an effort to distance Obama from them, that it became yet another symbol of American weakness in the wake of the president’s decision to abandon missile sites in Poland and the Czech Republic, and his recent manifest hesitation over what to do in Afghanistan.”

Weasel Zippers provides a video of Bolton being interviewed on FOX by Megan Kelly, during which he says of the President, "He put Israel on the chopping block"...

i wonder if there's any new cases of buyers remorse in Manhattan today?

UPDATE: Bolton isn't the only one dissatisfied with Obama's performance to date.  A quote from a time magazine interview published today:

What's your take on President Obama thus far?
Weak. Waffling, wavering, ambiguous and overwhelmingly concessionary.

Spoken by the obviously racist, h8ting, bastion of wingnuttia...Ralph Nader ?!?

UPDATE II: Perhaps the title of the director of the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom at the Heritage Foundation, Nile Gardiner's, essay title says it all; "The UN loves Barack Obama because he is weak".

He is the first American president who has made an art form out of apologizing for the United States, which he has done on numerous occasions on foreign soil, from Strasbourg to Cairo. The Obama mantra appears to be – ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do to atone for your country. This is a message that goes down very well in a world that is still seething with anti-Americanism contempt.
...
Simply put, Barack Obama is loved at the UN because he largely fails to advance real American leadership. This is a dangerous strategy of decline that will weaken US power and make her far more vulnerable to attack.

Do yourself a favor and read the whole thing...

UPDATE III: Thanks to Nice Deb for the link in her roundup of these revoltin' developments.

Something tells me that from here on out the road is going to get mighty tough to hoe for Mr. Obama...

The Arctic ice cap; et tu, racist?

An interesting walkback of a previous hysterical prediction.  Probably not a bad example to keep in mind during the next few days which are sure to bring a renewed, and certainly breathless, call for cap-n-trade in the wake of the UN assembly gathering.

As always, Cap'n Ed puts it in the proper context.

UPDATE: Czech President Vaclav Klaus characterized the UN climate meeting yesterday as propagandistic ...

Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder

hannah carves up acorn

Driven by the issue of the NEA's attempt to marshall artists help in promoting the President's agenda, there has been a lot of discussion in the comment threads here at POWIP centered around what constitutes fine art.  This piece by David Bugnon seems to qualify, at least in my view.  It's topical, centered around an attractive subject, and pleasant to look at; it speaks troooooof! to pow-ah alright.  But somehow, I doubt that the artist will be recieving any NEA grants money for this work...
