Congratulations Mr. President on a job well done.
Many of our more contrarian commenters here at POWIP may be surprised by this post’s lede, as well as those who generally agree with my theses. But as I have said since his election, Mr. Obama is our President, and I will support him when he’s right and oppose him when he’s not; I will be the personification of the term, “The Loyal Opposition.â€
Well I’d like to take this moment to congratulate the President for making a decision to put the safety of our nation first, instead of internationalism. Just as when he ordered the engagement of the Somali pirate kidnappers in April, Mr. Obama has again sent our special operations teams into action to protect our nation. Earlier today the best of the best, our US Navy SEALs, successfully concluded operation Celestial Balance; an operation tasked to capture/kill Saleh Ali Nabhan. Ten days ago President Obama signed off on the operation to take Nabhan, who was involved in many attacks on us and our allies since 1998 as well as residing on the FBI’s most wanted list since 2006.Â
This took stones on the part if the President, especially considering the pressure he’s under from the far left over Afghanistan and the War on Terror in general. I tend to agree with Fouad Ajami that it is morally false and intellectually muddled to differentiate between Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as the rest of the WOT, as being “good†or “bad†wars; they are all part of stemming radical Islamic extremism, a clear and present danger to our nation. And it’s pathetic how some on the left are blowing the retreat bugle just like they did in Iraq. But perhaps worse are those on the right who supported the endeavor while Bush was POTUS, but now that Obama is Commander-in-Chief are suddenly squeamish.
Let me be crystal clear, I am behind Obama, Petraeus, and the entire command structure in Afghanistan, all the way down to each boot on the ground. And to the President I say, while those on your own side, Pelosi et al, will resist your efforts to do what it takes to win the war, much like Bush joined with Democrats on some of his legislation, so too should you rely on the Republicans for support of your war needs and measures. I agree wholeheartedly with Messrs. McCain, Graham, and Lieberman that, “Only decisive force can prevail in Afghanistanâ€. Just as in Iraq, we need to go all the way to ensure victory and greater security for our nation.
So I’ll close by saluting my Navy brethren with a hearty, HOOYAH!, for a job well done, and the same to President Obama…

Obama Unveils Novel Strategy: Auto-Erosion of Base

Kind of Like the Pot calling the Kettle black
erm - dare I say Obama has finally issued a finding I can agree with...
I do NOT, however, sense a trend.

Whitemanus Raciststus Interruptus Uniqueness?
Who would've thought that this racist's outburst would have inspired so many hyper-enlightened personalities to follow in his wake?
Serena Williams's little diatribe, wherein she abuses a defenseless Korean Woman a whole 1/5 her size, here.
And then the brain-trust himself, Kayne"George Bush hates Black People" West, decides he can't stand for some Lilly White ho biaaaatch one-upping Ms. Knowles.
Well, that's surely one way of seeing the world... right? ehem... Right?
A great game last night
Between divisional rivals, the Packers and the Bears. Too bad such a great contest had to be marred by the smarmy Keith Olbermann's participation. Join uncle Jimbo at Ace's in an effort to have him removed from the Sunday night broadcast; do it in the name of purity in Football!
Czarist Washington
Is the title of an excellent op-ed, written by Senator Hutchinson of Texas, printed in today's Washington Post. It underscores how the Czar system circumvents the Constitution; read the whole thing.
“We doin’ big pimpin’ up in NYC”: From a little ACORN, a scandal grows in Brooklyn
Oh my, that title sounds like a novel I’d rather not read…
It seems that it was not such a fluke when ACORN employees were caught on film advising folks how to simultaneously run a brothel staffed by under age illegal aliens and dodge the taxes on the revenues of that operation. The latest episode in the criminal saga is set in Brooklyn.
To which ACORN is responding, Fuhgeddabowdit !; Darleen at PW covers the story where Bertha Lewis invokes a comparison to Willie Horton, all while threatening legal action.
But Ms. Lewis unwittingly makes an excellent analogy when she compares ACORN to Willie Horton; just not the one she intended. Because ACORN is a criminal enterprise, which has already been caught in wrongdoing, that will to violate the law, the rights of people, and defraud the government of money and the right to fair and accurate elections if facilitated by liberals; just like Willie Horton was allowed to continue to brutalize people while on “work†release from his life sentence in prison…
She wants to sound the oft employed dog-whistle of  RAAAAACISM!, but unfortunately for her and ACORN, the proof is in these videos; not to mention that her allies on the left have worn out the race card in the eyes of most Americans with it’s gratuitous use attacking all who oppose Obama’s policy prescriptions…
And sue the filmmaker? I’m afraid there is way too much precedent set for hidden camera sting video operations done by news organizations and whistleblowers. And all the howls of RAAAAAAACISM! in the world won’t change that inconvenient truth.
It’s time that ACORN stopped feeding at the public trough; otherwise the US taxpayer will continue, “doin' big pimpin, spendin' cheeseâ€...
So how is that smart power working out for us?
Well when it rains it pours…
As a result of President Obama’s world apology tour, we’re perhaps beginning to see the results of his smart power. Not only have our long-time allies, the Israelis, seem to have decided that they need to look out for themselves since we apparently are throwing them under the bus, but progress has been made regarding the prospects of unprecedented unilateral talks with some of the world’s rogue nations. North Korea has invited the Obama administration to join in direct talks on the status of their various military and civilian nuclear programs. And even though it has come to light that the IAEA willfully hid evidence of a covert Iranian military nuclear program, the administration has indicated it will also soon begin talks with the illegitimate Iranian thugocracy, without preconditions of course. That is, except for the fig leaf that they “might†be willing to put their military nuclear program on the negotiating table as well; a prospect seen as a hollow gesture that gives western leaders a pretty piece of paper to wave while they declare that we will now have peace in our time…
Also disturbing is the revelation that Obama knew in advance about the release of the Lockerbie bomber by the UK. And our closest ally has also sent their SAS to train Gaddafi’s soldiers; a development that most likely will lead to no good at some point down the road.
But the pièce de résistance may be the most recent announcement of Chavez and Putin working together for a nuclear Venezuela! Add to this the Russian bombers stationed there, and the increasing visits by the Russian navy, and the result is a disturbing scenario emerging centered on a Dictator who has voiced his wished to be a regional strongman. How can the President allow these escalations to occur, and will they ultimately lead to a “Cuban Missile Crisis†type of scenario for Mr. Obama or his successor?
Only time will tell, but it seems that “smart†power doesn’t impress our adversaries as much as “strong†power did. But then, Joey B. did say that Obama would be tested…
Let’s hope he does well. But still, “Gird your loins†as Slo Joe said, because all we have is hope since the most Honest!, Ethical!, Transparent! President EVAH! never felt the need to do as, you know,  all of his predecessors of the last 50 years or so have done and release, among other details of his life history,  his college grades!
 I guess he’s special…
It’s the Cover-Up
Last week, the [US Civl Rights] Commission’s General Counsel contacted the Justice Department to inquire if a response would be forthcoming and to advise the Justice Department that on Friday the Commission would meet to decide an issue left open at its meeting last month, namely whether to designate its already expanding investigation into the New Black Panther case as an issue for a year-long study and special report. (By statute the Commission must complete at least one such study and report each year on a matter of federal civil rights enforcement.) Later that day the Justice Department sent a one paragraph letter to the Commission advising that an OPR [Office of Professional Responsibility] investigation would be opened and “accordingly†no answer would be forthcoming until OPR concluded its investigation.
A source familiar with the Commission’s deliberations tells Pajamas Media that a number of the commissioners were aghast by the response. An OPR investigation is, of course, no basis for declining to co-operate with the Commission in its statutorily authorized obligation to investigate enforcement of civil rights laws. Moreover, during the Bush administration many controversial issues were the subject of investigation and litigation on multiple “tracks†(e.g., the firing of nine U.S. attorneys triggered both congressional inquiries and an inspector general’s report, investigations of embattled former Voting Rights Section chief Jack Tanner were conducted by both Congress and OPR).
Moreover, the Commission’s concerns, including whether the dismissal marks a deviation from past policy and whether the underlying case did concern a serious civil rights violation, are beyond the ordinary purview of OPR. OPR, in contrast to the Commission, will examine the narrower issue of whether politics or other improper considerations played any role in overriding the decision of the career attorneys who opposed the dismissal.
As one Commissioner described it, the DOJ’s excuse would be analogous to a corporation charged with employment discrimination which instituted an internal investigation — and then claimed that a civil lawsuit couldn’t proceed until the corporation investigated itself.
Read the whole thing.
And while we're grappling with issues of raaaaacism, here are the remembrances of a racist who went to New Orleans to help after Katrina.
Joe Wilson Was Right
A couple of days ago, Gibbs snarked:
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs today criticized CNN — not the Coast Guard — over the panic caused by the agency’s training exercise on the Sept. 11 anniversary, saying that the alarm could have been avoided if the network had checked its facts.
Gibbs said he wouldn’t second-guess Coast Guard leadership for holding a Potomac River exercise on the morning of the 9/11 commemoration. But he took a shot at CNN, which initially didn’t know the maneuvers in the Potomac were an exercise and erroneously reported that gunshots were fired — something the homeland security department said didn’t occur.
“Let’s understand that best I can tell there was reporting based on listening to a police scanner that was not verified, and then it was on television and now we’ve raced back to find out that it’s a training exercise. So I think it appears as if a lot of this might have been avoided,†Gibbs said.
I agree that CNN should have done its homework.
Of course, Maureen Dowd and others are in a tizzy over Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst at the Joint Session, which was clearly racist. And Wilson apologized for it.
The problem is, Wilson was right. Power Line were the first to report that the Gang of Six went to work retroactively truthifying Obama's assertion that his bill did not permit government health care to illegal aliens--and example, he said, of lies and distortions that were being put about regarding his bill.
Today, Stop the ACLU looks a little more closely at the matter:
The White House tonight is providing the below clarification on what the president’s health-care proposals would mean when it comes to the issue of illegal immigrants. The question, as we all know, arises from the Wilson “You lie†outburst, and the core claim that notwithstanding specific bill language barring illegal immigrants from participating in the “exchange,†as a practical matter, there is no way of verifying the citizenship of applicants — which is the current state of play. Republicans say that then means illegal immigrants would end up being enrolled in plans — bill language or no bill language.
Today, for the first time as far as we know, the administration is backing a provision that would require proof of citizenship before someone could enroll in a plan selected on the exchange.
Of course, this whole thing could mean nothing in the long run, since what Joe Wilson was referring to was HR 3200, which does allow illegals to be part of the system beyond emergency rooms. Obama can come up with all the plans he wants, but, the legislation is already there. Obama might want to pay attention to what is actually flowing through the halls of Congress in the future.
First, when Joe Wilson yelled out “lie†when Obama stated that illegal aliens would not be covered, well, yes, he was right. While President Sparky was standing at the podium glowering at Joe, Joe was right. As the news media went nuts, telling us how mean Joe was, Joe was right. Funny how those things happen, eh
Second, I find it interesting that these are the first details released regarding Obama’s health plan. He offered none during his campaign speech to Congress, and still hasn’t released an overall plan. Except for this. Heh!
Here are the bullet points from ye olde White House (I am ommitting the one about emergency room care for illegals, since that has long been in place, and really has nothing to do with Obama)
- Undocumented immigrants would not be able to buy private insurance on the exchange. Those who are lawfully present in this country would be able to participate.
- Undocumented immigrants would be able to buy insurance in the non-exchange private market, just as they do today. That market will shrink as the exchange takes hold, but it will still exist and will be subject to reforms such as the bans on pre-existing conditions and caps.
- Verification will be required when purchasing health insurance on the exchange. One option is the SAVE program (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) which states currently use to make sure that undocumented immigrants don’t participate in safety-net programs for which they are ineligible.
Notice the second one. “The [private] market will shrink as the exchange takes hold.†I have said time and time again that the whole point of this so-called reform is to eventually implement single payer. If we listen to Obama and other Democrats, the “public option†would simply provide some competition to private insurers. Here, we find out it is expected to shrink the private market.
