Rocketman – I must comment. first to take issue with word order. There is no such thing as an “American Catholic” – no such thing as an “American Catholic Church.” People who do not know any better will imagine that the Church is split up into various “synods”. I encourage you to present it thusly in the future, so as to avoid any misinterpretation: “Catholics in America” – nit-picky, I know – but…

As for a “split” – one imagines splitting an orange. If you cut off a portion, each portion is still an orange. But the schismatics who would bail on the Church are more like to find out they are really nothing more than orange zest.

As for the rest of us – should there be an uncomfortable exodus of non-believers – it would be like scales falling from our eyes, I believe. Not necessarily a bad thing at’all.

As for those clergy who would lead the Catholic faithful astray with their own personal theology: Judas is among us. Has always been. Will always be. Until the real One – the Coca-Cola of messiahs – returns.

Duly noted; it should be Catholics in America,,,

And you’re right about Judas being among us too…

But I especially liked the “Coca-Cola of messiahs” turn of the phrase. I have a funny feeling that one will be able to be used more in the near future…

And I’m not sure whether that’s good, or very, very bad…
