More Gratitude on Parade

Article in The Telegraph about a Canadian woman who is suing her (British, now residing in Switzerland) employer for making comments about her “full” figure, inspiring self-loathing that she claims led to an eating disorder. She also accuses the man of having put out a hit on her.

I’m not saying that it’s all right for an employer to make comments about an employee’s figure, but the article also mentions that in the course of four years he increased her salary from 50k Pounds to 550k Pounds, which seems rather generous to me. You’d think that at that rate she might have been able to purchase herself a little self respect.

Sounds like she added a lot of pounds…

It’s hard to tell from the neck-up shot alone, but she looks rather slim to me…

Me? I could have suffered the verbal abuse of an asshole for 550k pounds/year; no problem. I used to do it for far less than that!

It’s something I have to work on, but now that I’ve got it, I ain’t giving it up. The whole idea that the opinions and remarks of others can MAKE me do, think, or say ANYTHING – that they matter at all in my life – is no longer part of my thinking.

This woman needs a lesson in humility (eating disorders are about power and control, not eating), not a lawsuit. Granted, I haven’t had a job outside the home in a few years, but the only opinions of my boss that mattered were the ones connected with my work.

The opinions of a few people matter – did I fix supper that My Chief will like – but anyone outside my household is way down the list from Hubby and Power Greater.

KC – I have been noticing you have been looking a wee bit plump of late. You know, it’s your job we’re talking about here. A little more skin can’t hurt – but, by the same token when we first met you looked – well – you looked “more put together”

Does this job make my ass look fat?

Dan – I have been noticing you’ve been going out for lunch a lot recently – and, while I have no issue with going out to lunch, I thought I’d remind you that most places nowadays offer “low calorie” items.

Just saying. it will in no way impact your performance reviews or anything along those lines… just saying that Megan looks pretty great – and well I mean it is important to you know – put your best assets forward.

Does 550k pounds make my account look fat?

Mr. Bingley – I couldn’t help but notice that you have stopped wearing that fuzzy sweater… you know the one: low-cut (but still professional), tight… erm… body conforming… Do we need to have an intervention or do you get my drift? Not a big fan of the Eighties fashion styles.

Your account, or your accountant. Which gets to it first.
