He really has had a phenomenal season with the Vikes. I say that as a lifelong Packers fan, and someone who feels a great deal of gratitude towards the man for the many great memories he has bestowed on me. It’s been a privilege, really, despite all the sometimes over-the-top adulation.
Honestly, I’m a little surprised that he’s lasted as long as he has this season, though. The past few years, he’s hit the wall earlier. Adrian Peterson takes some of the credit for making it easier for him to throw, and the surgery seems to have gone well. Favre must have been very diligent in his rehab. The offensive line has limited the number of hits he’s had to take, too. They’ve done a good job.
Still, the man’s 40 years old. Yeah, I know, Warner’s 38. In fact, Warner was a teammate of Favre at one point in his career at Green Bay. Some people say that Brett didn’t exactly cover himself with glory the way he treated his underling at the time, though Mark Brunell and other quarterbacks who served as backups to Favre are complimentary. To tell you the truth, I was expecting Favre’s play to start deteriorating around week 9, given the trajectory of the past couple of seasons. The Vikes caught a break in playing both of their games against the Pack early, when the Packers’ suspect offensive line was still “gelling,” and they own the tiebreaker outright.
Assuming they win tonight, the Pack have a good chance of chasing down a wild-card berth, and they might even win a playoff game. It’ll be tough sledding, playing 3 of the last 4 on the road, and a test of their growth. Losing Kampman (my favorite current Packer player) and Harris doesn’t help, but they’re a young team and can absorb the losses better than most. Minnesota, on the other hand . . . should be worried.

Brett Favre stayed in the game to cement his claim on some (now impossible to match) NFL records. The 283 consecutive starts? That’s his forever.
Favre didn’t have his best game yesterday but Minnesota couldn’t run the ball for shit so they were forced to throw every down. On the season Favre has been nothing short of exceptional, surprisingly exceptional, agreed.
Yeah, Favre came back only to increase his record, sure, stupid, that makes a lot of sense.
He didn’t say that’s why Favre came back, he said that’s why he played the whole game.
Oh, my bad, that looks like that is what he said alright.
Sorry, stupid.
The Cardinals managed to stuff Peterson; a laudable performance indeed. And speaking from experience, albeit long ago, when you’re stuffing the run, and have decent DB’s and are getting a good push from your D-line, you’re pretty much going to keep most opponents in check. Add to that the fact that Warner had a pretty food night, and has some of the best recievers in Football, and it’s not hard to see why the Vikes came up short…
What I don’t understand is why the Vikings defense looked so bad last night…
Tonight’s game will be good; it’s a must win for both, but more urgent for Baltimore I think. The Packers are pretty darn good this year, but I wouldn’t be too quick to write off the Ravens.
