Sternburger v. Paul Ryan

Sternburger demagogues for Crap Sandwich.

Meanwhile, with exquisite timing, Paul Ryan introduces a Health Care Reform plan that actually makes sense, and which will fit in a briefcase.

How Grand Was My Mufti

Pam Geller on those wacky National Socialists and their madcap Muslim friends.

Who is the German government protecting? I have, along with industrious Atlas readers, embarked on a mission to determine who would be sanctioned for such atrocity. In the process of researching this evil, the close association between the Third Reich and Islamic jihad is frightening. The Muslims were just as guilty as the Nazis and yet they walked away and their major role in this awful time in history expunged from the history books. This was not taught in Social Studies class. That is a war crime. You couldn't teach it today. Under sharia law, you cannot defame or insult Islam and we are living under a soft sharia.

Why, Pamela, they had their racism thrust upon them by the same sort of Greedy Bankers who underwrote the Third Reich and whom Oliver Stone will prove were responsible for the Crucifixion in his remake of The Passion of the Christ. Duh!

Speaking of bitter old Jew-dislikers, Garrison Keillor, last seen telling them not to stray into the Christian music-making neighborhoods, claims that Republicans don't care about the---well, it's now 50 million Americans according to his assertion, who are without health insurance, because they are so focused on defeating Obama. Then he talks about the joblessness in Sheboygan.

Looky here, Garrison: could there possibly be a reason that those For Lease signs are most prevalent in states with Democrat-run governments? I mean, you think that passing an enormous entitlement program at the present moment is the way to get us out of the Great Recession in which we presently find ourselves? You think Obama's policies are commerce friendly, and worthy of our support? You think he deserves a B+? I think you must be listening to too much NPR.

The commoners are turning on Obama because he sucks. His Achilles' heel is that he's a douchebag.

Julian Jaynes—I Mean, Jeff Goldstein on the Bicameral Mind

Racism begins in the House of Sub-Consciousness, is sent to the Senate of False Consciousness, ping-ponged back to the House for reconciliation, and sent to a race-baiting All-Conscious Executive for interpretation by his panel of Agency Agencies before signing, including a mandate for the Establishment of Establishments for the Control of Voterly Thoughts for the Sub-Sub-Conscious Citizenry, including the tea-baggers who are too stupid to deserve to read Time.

Whiny Women and Wimpy Guys

I'm going to take a brief, personal detour before hitting the links [fore!]

I'm married with three kids. My husband is a stay-at-home dad and all around steward of our manor [hey, we've got an observatory. I think I can say we have a manor.] I'm an actuary.

Before we got married, Stu and I agreed on some basic stuff: we wanted to have kids, we thought a parent should stay at home, and I wasn't going to be the person staying at home. We had a variety of reasons for making this decision, but it boiled down to comparative advantage: our personal tolerances for various tasks, our relative skills in these tasks [uh, I can boil water?], and what the external world was up to. In addition to that, over time we've carved out who is the final word on which areas; yes, we confer with each other, but Stu is final word on all things household and childcare, I'm final word on finance.

So my perspective is out there before I deal with the last round of men v. women -- women as breadwinners, women wanting housewives.

First, from Sarah Tsing Loh... and she's had some ugly personal stuff that she put out there herself. I'm not digging it up right now [google it yourself], let's just look at her column:

Still, a return to a life more like the 1950s, with one breadwinner and one homemaker, is an unreasonable expectation. It is particularly so since, as the breadwinner, I wish to be the husband, and hence what I’m looking for is a wife — a loyal helpmeet who keeps the home fires burning and offers uncritical emotional support when I, the gladiator, return exhausted from the arena. Who are the (actively listening!) men without money who can adapt to such a role?

Meep

Meep is a member of the Irish Catholic mafia, having a suspiciously high number of green-eyed, red-haired friends. While she doesn’t have red hair herself [except when she goes into the sun (rare for any vampire)], she does have green eyes. She’s a raving Papist and is a life actuary on the side [i.e., she counts dead people]. An amateur pain-in-the-ass [willing to go pro!], she likes covering retirement, mortality, math, and education issues.

The Ghosts of Our Little Republic

Jules Crittenden has posted a wonderful rumination on the men who brought us our liberty. As he noted in an email to me, I am fortunate to live near Ticonderoga, where they seized the cannons that they used against the British forces on the heights in Boston.

The British did not believe that the rough Colonials had the gumption, the wherewithal, the fortitude or the audacity (to seize back the term) to resist them. The sheer sweat of their undertaking was stunning, their endurance under hardship monumental, their commitment absolute. What do we not owe them, and how shall we express our gratitude?

James O’Keefe Arrested

Along with 3 other dudes in NOLA, on charges of conspiracy to wiretap Landrieu's office phone. If they were trying to do so, all I can say is, WTF?

What the hell could they have been thinking, if it's true? I mean, I'm buggered if I understand why O'Keefe would be at Landrieu's offices if he weren't doing something sting-related. Apparently, he was in town to give a talk to a libertarian group called the Pelican Institute. Still, what are you going to do with illegally acquired information?

Sucks for Andrew. How bad? ABBAWORLD.

In Boston, Stacy, Pete and I got to meet Hannah Giles. People were asking about the chances of ACORN going ahead with a lawsuit, and she and her friend were saying that ACORN wouldn't pursue it, because of what they'd have to give up in discovery. Now, they don't have to do a thing at all, because it appears that a victory has been handed to them.

Regardless, if you think ACORN are clean, you probably believe the IPCC.

UPDATE: Dan Riehl has a lot of other information, and a link to the affidavit.

UPDATEx2: Michelle has more, including the cryptic reference to "veritas," which perhaps suggests too much wine might have played a role.
