From the ABMP

This is an excerpt of an email I got from one of the massage organizations I belong to, Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals:

"It would have been difficult to miss the recent news stories about a massage therapist in Oregon making accusations against a former U.S. vice president. Coverage that reflects badly on massage therapy is an unfortunately familiar occurrence, even though we as a profession have come a long way in educating consumers and the media about your outstanding contributions to health and wellness.

While Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) has strongly worked for change and education with the media and consumers, we are taking a slightly different tack with ABC’s program “The View,” which recently featured several co-hosts, including a comedian, discussing the current story with a fair amount of sarcasm and innuendo about the role of the massage therapist.

We are choosing this particular event as an opportunity to continue educating the media and consumers about what constitutes legitimate, therapeutic massage—your work, your accomplishments, and your ethical conduct.

We have extended an invitation to the producers and co-hosts of ABC’s “The View” for a complimentary, one-hour massage, courtesy of ABMP, so they can experience for themselves how healing and relaxing therapeutic massage can be. We believe this approach could go a long way in educating, rather than shooting, the messenger.

All of us can participate in this opportunity to educate the public about what massage therapy is—and isn’t."

As I read this, I had a couple thoughts:

-Nothing like rewarding bad behavior with free massages.

-I didn't know anyone actually watched The View.

Falahime

Falahime Blah blah blah, Wyoming, blah blah, massage therapist, details cars, used to sell beer, blah blah, hunts big game. That’s about all there is to me; I’m pretty simple.

Takin’ the O! train

Goin' Down

Next stop: Boooooosh!-ville, if the most recent polls by CBS and WaPo/ABC News can be believed.  Both polls show overall public confidence in Obama's leadership in the low 40s, 43% for WaPo/ABC and 40% for CBS; although the WaPo/ABC poll laughably puts his public approval rating at 50/47 (approve/disapprove of the job he's doing).  What must be even more troubling for Democrats, of garment rending magnitude in fact, is that the GOP has taken the lead in generic ballot preference; even in the Ragin' Cajun "Corporal Cue-Ball T." Carville's poll!  And Ace pretty much hits the nail on the head regarding the truth contained in the generic ballot numbers, in his usual inimitable style:

if this type of poll shows Republicans a little behind, they're tied. If it shows them tied, they're a little ahead. If it shows them a little ahead, they're solidly ahead.

What happens if the poll shows them solidly ahead?

Vote-a-geddon, the Democrat Votocalypse, that's what.  Yep, that would be bad enough on it's own, but the piece de resistance is that the WaPo/ABC news poll skews Democratic in it's sampling  by the margin of victory the President enjoyed 18 months ago!  How crazy is that, when, the trend has been observed to be a continuum of decline for at least the past year.  And who knew that both of these organizations would join in confirming the data that the much reviled, Reich-winger, Obergruppenfuhrer McPollster Scott Rasmussen has been saying for months now; surely they're all a bunch of racist h8terz, and should be roundly denounced along with the Tea-Party by the NAACP.

Cap'n Ed at Hot Air has a great analysis of the results of both sets of polling data, WaPo/ABC and CBS, and gleans from it the impression that it's indicitive of the fact that in the eyes of the American public Obama finally "owns" the economy.  Oh well, so much for the old saw of blaming everything on BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!

So, how long is it until we can regulary bandy about the phrase, "Obama's failed economic policies"?  Well it might not be long, if the Daily Beast's Lloyd Grove's analysis is correct:

You’d think the well-heeled and enlightened eggheads at the Aspen Ideas Festival—which is running all week in this fashionable resort town with heady panel discussions and earnest disquisitions involving all manner of deep thinkers and do-gooders—would be receptive to an intellectually ambitious president with big ideas of his own.

In a way, the folks attending this cerebral conclave pairing the Aspen Institute think tank with the Atlantic Monthly magazine might even be seen as President Obama’s natural base.

Apparently not so much.

Grove cites Mort Zuckerman, in the headlines most recently for admitting to penning one of Obama's speeches for him, as speaking of the administration's, "hostility to the very kinds of business culture that have made this the great country that it is and was"; by the way, thanks Mort, for being one of his most vocal supporters during the 2008 election.  Then Grove quotes Niall Ferguson, of Harvard business school:

Ferguson called for what he called “radical” measures. “I can’t emphasize strongly enough the need for radical fiscal reform to restore the incentives for work and remove the incentives for idleness.” He praised “really radical reform of the sort that, for example, Paul Ryan [the ranking Republican on the House Budget Committee] has outlined in his wonderful ‘Roadmap’ for radical, root-and-branch reform not only of the tax system but of the entitlement system” and “unleash entrepreneurial innovation.” Otherwise, Ferguson warned: “Do you want to be a kind of implicit part of the European Union? I’d advise you against it.” [emphasis-ed.]

I know...I know...SHOCKING!  But the worst for the President?

This was greeted by hearty applause from a crowd that included Barbra Streisand and her husband James Brolin. “Depressing, but fantastic,” Streisand told me afterward, rendering her verdict on the session. “So exciting. Wonderful!”

Brolin’s assessment: “Mind-blowing.”

In a word? Heart-ache!

But, who really gives a tinkers-damn about what's going on in the minds of vapid glitterati like Mrs. and Mr. Streisand anyway.  The answer?  A whole lot of other glitterati, their hangers-on, and some of the intelligensia, that's who.  These people shape a lot more opinion than I'm comfortable with, and as a group, their ilk can effect the opinions of a lot of, what I call, low information voters.  And worse yet, the Democrats rely on these folks for big buck$; especially since they've burned a few bridges among their more traditional big donors in the business, finance, and wealthy American Jewish communities.

It really begs the question of just how long it will be before the wholesale distancing from the President begins by the members of his alleged base.  But the most burning of questions?

Is this some of what's going through Bab's mind at night, in her nightmare's perhaps?  Let's hope so, because of the fairness ...

Is Obama bent on stealthy reparations?

Doug Ross seems to think so.  He sees certain provisions, buried amongst the thousands of pages of legal-ese, of Obamacare and Financial reform legislation as accomplishing just that end.  And when you consider these in light of AG Holders disinterest in prosecuting the NBPP voter intimidation case, his eagerness to "review" the LA transit police verdict, going after Arizona for trying to enforce federal immigration law, and the revalations by whistleblower J. Christian Adams, that there is a deliberate underlying calculus that goes beyond mere wealth redistribution.

Me?  I think he may be onto something.  Because Obama's resorted to every dirty trick in the book, parlaimentary, rhetorical, and otherwise, in order to get the elements of his agenda enacted; regardless of whether all of us Plebes approve.  I mean, this may just be a(nother) case of the Present-dent and his elite pals believing that they know much better than we do what is good for us, or, our "Imperial" President believes his wish is our command.

What do you think?

A handy item in the days to come

And I'm not talking about pitchforks, cudgels, a several month supply of MREs, or even more ammunition, although those are all handy items in their own right.  No, I'm talking about your official Obama tax exemption card:

This little jem certifies that you are officially not a member of the eeeeeevvvoolllll, greedy, rich folks who, according to the Present-dent, have not been "paying their fair share"; and as such, per the definition held forth by "Fightin' Joe" Biden, are unpatriotic.  And we all remember these statements:

“I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.”

--Candidate Barack Obama, Sept. 12, 2008

“If your family earns less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes increased a single dime. I repeat: not one single dime.”

--President Barack Obama, Feb. 24, 2009

“The statement didn’t come with caveats.”

--Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs, April 15, 2009, when asked if the pledge applies to healthcare

JUST WORDS !?! Why, that's not possible.  Not when coming from the most Ethical!, Transparent!, Honest!, President and administration-EVAR! I mean, there are no strings or expiration dates on his solemn vows to the American people, right?

PriO!rities

I'm starting to wonder if the President understands the meaning of the word. But like his grasp of actual history facts, perhaps vocabulary wasn't a subject he embraced at Harvard; or maybe it's just the usual progressive fungibility of meaning that our pal Jeff Goldstein at Protein Wisdom has written about over the years.

Mr. Obama has said for some time that his administration is focusing laser-like on jobs and the economy, but their lastest push on immigration, certainly in response to the recent Arizona immigration law but also as part of a larger mid-term electoral calculus, has many members of his own party scratching their heads in puzzlement.

In a private meeting with White House officials this weekend, Democratic governors voiced deep anxiety about the Obama administration’s suit against Arizona’s new immigration law, worrying that it could cost a vulnerable Democratic Party in the fall elections.

At the Democrats’ meeting on Saturday, some governors bemoaned the timing of the Justice Department lawsuit, according to two governors who spoke anonymously because the discussion was private.

“Universally the governors are saying, ‘We’ve got to talk about jobs,’ ” Gov. Phil Bredesen of Tennessee, a Democrat, said in an interview. “And all of a sudden we have immigration going on.”

He added, “It is such a toxic subject, such an important time for Democrats.”

Indeed.  I would remind the Governor that it is also both a toxic subject and an important time for America as well.

Then there's the ongoing disaster in the Gulf, which is at least as serious, or arguably worse, than Katrina.  In September 2005, just a few weeks after the initial disaster, most of the media was obsessing over how the Booooooooooosh! administration "blew it".  But today, months after the seriousness of the spill has become apparent the silence of the legacy media is deafening.

In fact, just like his declaration of a "hard pivot" to, and laser like focus on, jobs and the economy has reached it's expiration date, so too has Obama's promise that his administration will "not rest" until the disaster is dealt with.

Under pressure to get the leak stopped, Obama said: "We will not rest until this well is shut, the environment is repaired and the cleanup is complete."

That was on May 26th.  And, as Cap'n Ed notes, this past weekend President Kickazz enjoyed his 9th or 10th day of not-rest at the golf course.  And soon, he'll be enjoying some non-rest in Maine.  I guess the Gulf coast resorts that he encouraged us all to patronize are all booked up, or, you know, what is good for thee, is not for me .

But in-between now and the start of his vacation, I'm sure he'll be working tirelessly on the nation's business.  That is, if he's not busy shooting hoops with LeBron James.  But who knows, maybe Mr. James has a good strategy for dealing with the leaking well head, I mean, he did live in Cleveland, and perhaps he studied engineering in college.  Oh, wait...

By the way, this would be the same Mr. James who recently left Cleveland for more pastel pastures of Miami; an kerfuffle that I've been loathe to address for a variety of reasons, chief among which is tremendous indifference.  But, race-baiter exraordinaire Jesse Jackson has no such compunction.  He called out the Cavaliers owner, who public expressed his personal sense of betrayed loyalty, for exhibiting a slaveholder's mentality:

Jesse Jackson criticized Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert on Sunday, saying Gilbert sees LeBron James as a "runaway slave" and that the owner's comments after the free-agent forward decided to join the Miami Heat put the player in danger.

In danger of what? A higher tax bracket? Memo to Jesse the J; slaves didn't get multi-year contracts that most likely will involve tens of millions of dollars, and they certainly didn't get a choice of venue.  Maybe though, when shooting some hoops with the President who never rests, he can get O! or his boy Holder to do him a solid, and deal with that Gilbert.  Who knows, his remarks may have bordered on, gasp, "hate speech", or perhaps the IRS might need to look more deeply into his last few years returns.  After all, according to the Chicago rules, everything is fair game.

But, maybe I'm just being hard on the Present-dent.  I mean, there's no chance that the progressively inclined media would be employing a double standard; treating his recreational pursuits a necessary breaks for "recharging" and "blowing off steam" as opposed to the blatant "goldbricking" of Mr. Boooooooooooosh!

To his credit, Captain Kickazz did dispatch a TOP! specialist to the Guld coast this week:

First lady Michelle Obama on Monday will make her first trip to the Gulf Coast since the BP oil spill by visiting Panama City Beach, Fla., aides said today.

So what if he's on the links, he's got Michelle down there to "strongarm" that well into submission.  Why, she'll probably be able to stop that nasty ol'  leak simply by threatening to take it to a show; the gun show !

Welcome to the show; the Gun Show!

After her speech to residents, that is, probably assuring them that Barack "won't rest" until the situation is resolved.  But we may never actually hear about the entire visit until, and unless, there is an "official" White House press release;

She will deliver a speech to area residents after being briefed by officials and local leaders, aides said. The briefing largely will be closed to the press. [emphasis-ed.]

Because of the Transparency !

Now watch this drive...

Meep is a member of the Irish Catholic mafia, having a suspiciously high number of green-eyed, red-haired friends. While she doesn’t have red hair herself [except when she goes into the sun (rare for any vampire)], she does have green eyes. She’s a raving Papist and is a life actuary on the side [i.e., she counts dead people]. An amateur pain-in-the-ass [willing to go pro!], she likes covering retirement, mortality, math, and education issues.

If a picture is worth a thousand words

Then this cartoon by Michael Ramirez is...pricelessHe's really captured the zeitgeist in Israel, at least of the majority; as well as some Americans, Jew and Gentile alike.  Think of it as the hypothetical Toraic equivalent of being thrown under the bus...

Won Nation, Under Progg

What an awful joke:

In an effort to replicate the tea party's success, 170 liberal and civil rights groups are forming a coalition that they hope will match the movement's political energy and influence. They promise to "counter the tea party narrative" and help the progressive movement find its voice again after 18 months of floundering.

The large-scale attempt at liberal unity, dubbed "One Nation," will try to revive themes that energized the progressive grassroots two years ago. In a repurposing of Barack Obama's old campaign slogan, organizers are demanding "all the change" they voted for -- a poke at the White House.

They don't even realize that a normal American is going to continue on to consider the portion "under God" that they hate, that the normal American will reflect on "justice, for all" and think of Eric Holder, that the normal American will reflect that this is extracted from the Pledge of Allegiance "to the Republic" for which the flag that Obama won't fly in Haiti stands, that used to be recited in public schools that proggs won't permit to use it any more.

Obama is a colossus of moral squalor, and the fundamental incoherence of his adherents is a function of long-cultivated ignorance, selfishness and stupidity.

We know what "counter the tea party" means:

I hope you get the shabazz beaten out of you, punk.

Pension roundup 9July2010

While Oakland was having its little to-do, Greece was having its own. Both were equally productive.

Let's take a look, shall we?

Counting Is So Easy A Child Can Do It…..Right?

2010 Census Form

That’s the 2010 Census Form.  You know, the one you got in the mail that cost Heaven only knows how much to send out and for us to send back.  Not to mention the fancy posters and TV ads that INSISTED we send them back.....on pain of no hope..or something.

So my mom and I got our form..we answered the question about how many people live here and their ages..(no I’m not telling YOU that, sheesh) and sent it back, in its nifty SASE..that’s not supposed to cost us anything, but since it’s taxpayer money, that’s not really true now is it?

That was weeks and weeks ago. Today, a Census Worker comes to the door and tells my mom she has some questions. What follows is the conversation, word for word, between my lovely, kind, compassionate mother, and the Census Worker:

MOM: Um, I sent my form in already.
WORKER: Well, as you can imagine ma’am, with the thousands of forms that come in everyday, it is difficult to count them all. (yes, she really said that)
MOM: Well then, why send them at all?
WORKER: So people would send them back.
MOM: And that’s what I did
WORKER: But they might not get counted correctly ma’am (my mom hates being called ma’am by the way), so we are trying….
MOM: That is your problem, not mine.
WORKER: I will just put down that you refused. (Is that a threat? Threatening teh Mom..not a good idea)
MOM: That isn’t what I said. I said I sent my form back as requested and they can count me in Washington.
WORKER: Well…
MOM: I will tell you that 2 people live here.
WORKER: Oh, well that’s one of the things we need to know.
MOM: And that’s all you’re going to know. It’s all I put on the form too.
(Mom closes door)

So here are my questions for the super efficient Federal Government:

1. WTF is WRONG with you? I’m gonna guess at least a Billion dollars was spent between postage, printing, and advertising to send out the stupid forms only to spend another obscene amount of money to send rude random people to my house to ask me the same questions you asked me MONTHS ago and I was responsible enough to send the damn form back.

2. Does this seem sensible to you as stewards of the People’s money? Does this make rational sense, that you sent out millions of forms, demanded they be filled out and sent back, only to tell me that too many of them are being sent back and nobody understands how to count them?

3. Fraud has already been uncovered in the Census by James O’Keefe . And I am quite certain that doesn’t even begin to cover it. And so we’re just supposed to trust the results? As the kids say these days “Whateves”.

4. And with this..you are the people we are supposed to entrust our health care to? Pfffft and I don’t freakin’ think so.

I have an offer for you….if you’re really having the trouble that our Census Worker said you are counting the pieces of paper coming through the mail…I can send you my 5 year old nephew, he can count all the way to 1000 with no fingers or toes at all and he'll work for Skittles.

Dede

Sometimes stuff rumbles around in my brain that's longer than 140 characters and, well......twitlonger just seems like cheating. :)
