Well, listen up, Alaska voters: You didn't put Miss Murkowski in the Senate, and she'll be damned if she's going to let you throw her out.

It’s Like They Aren’t Even Trying

In what is increasingly looking like a last ditch effort man the torpedoes and damn the consequences in the face of a pending electoral nightmare, the Democrats (in the form of Blago lottery winner Roland Burris) are adding an amendment to the Defense Authorization bill set for a vote.  The amendment would end a "longstanding ban" (since the mid 90s) on abortions at overseas military hospitals.  The current ban has exceptions for cases of rape, incest, or danger to the life of the mother; meaning the proposal would effectively apply only to birth control abortions.

Senator Nelson (D-NE) states that he opposes the "elective abortions on publicly funded facilities," but does anyone doubt where he'll vote when the time comes?  Which do you think he'd rather avoid if given the choice; prevent the repeal of DADT or let the feds pay for a few abortions?

Supporters claim that the patients would be paying the costs of the procedure.  GOP opponents note, correctly, that the facitilities and salaries are publicly subsidized.  This demonstrates, once again, tha t Democrats are either clueless about the effects of overhead costs or are purposefully obtuse on the issue.  I'm not sure which, nor am I sure which is worse.

With Amnesty alone, they could have used the vote politically (although not very effectively).  With DADT alone, they could have used it politically (possibly with some effect).  All three combined, though, provide perfect cover for any Republican to vote against it regardless of his local constituency.

Business – 4th Quarter Appeal

OK, kids. I want to mention a couple things.

1st is that, somehow, the business has survived and actually sort-of flourished in spite of James A Ray's negligence and the death of one of our founders, James Shore, last October 8th. So, the four of us active partners and Alyssa (James's widow, who is a "silent partner") are well pleased. Really, it was James' dream to be able to build something up enough to sustain his family (and his interest). So, we are well-pleased that God has been so very benevolent in the cause of helping the business survive the torpedo to the bow and then helping us be able to say we have weathered our first Big Test.

2nd Small Businessland has been a brutal world this year for all small businesses. So, we are even more thankful that we have thusfar survived very much in spite of it.

Now, here is my appeal... if you know anyone or any company that might be or currently is in need of top-shelf web development, search marketing (SEO/PPC/Inbound Link Building), please send them our way.

Again, giving thanks to God, our business has been growing entirely on referrals from Clients, Friends, Acquaintances. What this means is that our Cost Of Sales is as low as is possible. This is good, as we have a lot of extra space in our bank account.

We do large projects, small projects, medium sized projects. We do direct to Client as well as "white label" arrangements (where we do the work behind the scenes on behalf of an ad agency or consultant who then brands the deliverable as their own work. We invoice the intermediary, they invoice the end Client.) White labeling is where we want to be and it is the area in which we are experiencing the most growth.

Why it is working: 1) people want to outsource (or dont want to carry a full team of interactive aces), but 2) they dont want to off-shore (for myriad reasons). So, think of us as an On-Shore solution.

Finally, we do a lot of pro bono work. If you have a worthwhile cause, we'd love to hear it. In addition, we do offer Good Guy pricing if you vouch for the folks you refer.

Thanks for hearing me out. We are a healthy company looking to keep that way.

Followup on O’Donnell

I alluded to it in the comments of my previous post, but the context matters.  Michelle Malkin took a hard look at the clip, and finds a nugget that I'm ashamed to admit I missed even when I was looking for context.  The transcript making the rounds seems to be redacted, and Michelle does a great job of providing the missing dialogue

At 1:03 in the video, one of the panelists on the show criticizes O’Donnell for criticizing Halloween — “Wait a minute, I love this, you’re a witch, you go ‘Halloween is bad,’ I’m not the witch, I mean wait a minute.” She responds by explaining that she opposes witchcraft because she has had first-hand experience with what they do.

So, she tried it. She rejected it. And she learned from it.

John Hinderaker at Powerline offers his take in his follow up to this post; and I agree with some of his points in the follow up.

Lest there be any doubt, if I were a resident of Delaware, I would vote for O'Donnell. That is because she is far preferable to her "bearded Marxist" opponent. But O'Donnell is, nevertheless, a lousy candidate. I'm sorry, but politics is not about snatching random people out of the crowd and making them one of 100 United States Senators. Those who seek high office need to be qualified as leaders. They must be thoughtful and intelligent; they must have accomplishments in the public, or, better yet, the private sphere.

I would vote for her, but I don't think she's a good candidate.  For one, in general I like to see Senate candidates with a track record of electoral success beyond a primary.  Barring that, as John adds, I'd like to see some level of success in the private sector.

Scott Johnson, also of Powerline, balances John's (and my) skepticism regarding O'Donnell, but one might well consider this along the lines of damning with faint praise.

If Al Franken was able to overcome his personal record to become a United States Senator, Christine O'Donnell certainly can. O'Donnell has the additional advantage of having a man who formerly advertised himself as the bearded Marxist for her opponent. His name is Chris Coons. Although he has shaved the beard, I am quite sure that his current views are kissing cousins to the ones he advertised in his college days.

Generally, I think the arguments I'm making here are best relegated to a primary debate.  I don't think it's the job of Republicans (or even conservatives) to help the liberal/Democratic opponents, even rhetorically.  I don't think my comments here will deter any voter in Delaware, however, from voting for O'Donnell.

Finally, back to Michelle, who really boils it down to what my wife said last night:

She has nothing to be ashamed of — except, perhaps, for going on Maher’s show so many times.

A Peek Inside a Muddled Mind.

Since Mr. Collins does not restrict us in what we can write about I thought I'd tell you a little about me and the things I'm interested in. These are the things (other than politics which, quite frankly, the day to day of is getting on my last nerve and yanking it til it bleeds.) that you're likely to read about if you read me.

I'm into history...American History mostly...but also Military History..so there will be some of that. My favorite few minutes in American History come from this I believe those 14 paragraphs ARE America. So..there's that.

I'm also into books. I read nonfiction like The Politically Incorrect Guides and The Making of America and A Patriot's History of the United States among many many many others. Most having to do with history or politics.

Okay...so get your mocking hats on because I also loved these books and these books.

My favorite fiction series is the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. Girl can tell a story. I also enjoy political thrillers, mysteries, and alternative history fiction..the best of which is this man

I am also a TV addict and a fangirl, holdovers from my teenage years that sometimes require intervention and intense meetings. Currently I love these shows: Warehouse 13, Burn Notice, Haven, White Collar among many many many others that we will get to as the fall lineup gets going.

I fangirl the following people (some of them I know their politics and some I don't..I just assume if you're in the entertainment bidness you're a lefty unless you say otherwise, so please no OMG he's a LIBERAL!! Because I don't fangirl them because of their politics and for some of them..it's not even for their talent. ;) ) Eric Balfour, Kevn McKidd, Johnny Depp, Bruce Campbell, Adrian Paul,Peter Wingfield, Rachel Weisz, Angie Harmon just to name a teeny tiny few.

So, there is absolutely no telling what I might decide to write about up to and including how ugly most of these are. And about stuff from my life..some of it fall down in the floor funny, like the story about my dad and the Great Mailbox Massacre, and some of it not so funny like my giving up my daughter for adoption or my being raped.

So, I hope I haven't freaked you out or got you thinking I need therapy ...well I actually might..but that's really none of your business.

See ya in the funny papers!!!

Dede

Sometimes stuff rumbles around in my brain that's longer than 140 characters and, well......twitlonger just seems like cheating. :)

Congratulations to the BBC [UPDATE]

You know, I enjoy some of their programmes. I've got Father Ted, Coupling, Black Books and other BBC fare around. But I want to congratulate them on the jolly good influence that they've had on British society.

In 1982, Pope JP II went over to the UK, and there was none of the protesting that's being widely (and sometimes gleefully) reported in the British papers. I can certainly understand the upset from victims of clergy sex abuse. As for the rest, it seems to me rather odd that gay rights advocates, Paisleyite wankers, atheists, young socialist yobs, Muslims and the rest of the aggrieved make such a hubbub about the visit of the Pope, but show no such inclination to spectacle when it comes to the angry imams in their midst. Perhaps if the Church were authorizing the stoning of putative adulteresses or the hanging of gay men, they would be less inclined to demonstrate publicly.

Leading the secularist charge would be the BBC. The effects of their concern for British culture are everywhere evident in British culture. It's evident that through the gradual adoption of the BBC's views, Britons are everywhere happier and better off than otherwise they would be, which is why they are continually bombarded with PSAs asking them to consider not getting so putridly intoxicated for a change.

Once upon a time, the English (in particular) were widely discounted among continental philosophers and social theorists for having an irritating tendency towards empiricism. Indeed, the US's political and intellectual foundations emerged from that tradition, which was startlingly effective when applied to the real-world problems of an aspiring civilization in the New World. That's now long ago, though.

To save British culture, they've had to destroy it. Well done.

UPDATE: Ecoligionists get the facts wrong.

Irony free REUPDATE:

Anger over the scandal runs high in Britain in part because of the enormous scale of the abuse in neighboring Ireland, where government reports have detailed systematic abuse of children at church-run schools and cover-up by church authorities.
