A Post I Really Didn’t Want To Have To Write
As you know, since The B-Cast went off on their own, bought out by Andrew Breitbart, I've been without a job. Over the summer, I mushroomed, and I've picked up copywriting and editing jobs here and there.
My termination from The B-Cast came as a phone call from Scott while I was at the NIH in Bethesda with Aidan, for a treatment study regarding low-voltage trans-cranial stimulation, on the day that I visited The Daily Caller, and had lunch paid for by Becca Glover and Sean Medlock, aka Jim Treacher. I don't blame them at all. Scott had taken on work for Glenn Beck (he now is chief editor for The Blaze), and The B-Cast went from a 2 1/2-hour daily vlog to a 1-hour show. It was very kind of them to help me out last year when I was looking for work.
It was rather odd, though, that I wasn't kept abreast of things there. I knew, as did other followers, that there were big changes in the works. At one point, I gave the green light to Enoch sending a mock-up page to Andrew's people, on the chance that they might have some work for his business. Scott got a call from them and called me in response, saying that I'd likely inadvertently screwed things up regarding a contract negotiation. He really couldn't say how so, for contractual reasons, and he really still can't elucidate what went wrong for the same contractual reasons.
Before he left, though, he had a brief conversation with Larry O'Connor, who was taking the reins of Breitbart.TV. He asked him to contact me. Larry was unaware that I'd been employed in any fashion by Breitbart.TV. One of my principal tasks, apart from tracking down interviewees, was to supply video material for the page. Larry and I talked for awhile about the possibility of my working for Breitbart, and I sent him a lot of links in the early going, but a lot of things conflicted with his asking Andrew directly whether I might have a place there, including the possibility of a lawsuit from Shirley Sherrod. Recently they've brought Dan Riehl into the fold, and . . . good for them.
Larry and another friend both suggested that I should get in contact with Jason Mattera, who had assumed important editorial duties for Human Events. So, I did. Jason and I parlayed at length on two occasions, and he suggested that it would be a good idea to set up an interview with the print editor, as well. Then . . . I heard nothing. I called, I emailed, I tweeted, but couldn't get a response at all. I still haven't gotten a response.
Now, Jason's not exactly a shrinking violet. I requested that if he knew of anything that might exclude me from seeking a position in right-wing media, he should let me know. I'd like to know what I'm up against, certainly, and I'd like to have the chance to respond to any allegations. It could be that I was too revealing in my correspondence, but really that's the way I am. If he's not responding because he thinks it might be embarrassing to me, he's got the wrong guy.
The only person, really, that I can think of who's big in right media who might have a thing against me is PJM head Roger Simon, though I've been friendly to him and helpful to many of his writers. Long ago, when Jeff got dumped from the cadre, we had a conflict. In the ensuing communication, he insulted someone whom I admire, reporting the words of someone else whom I admire. I contacted that someone else, and, indicating that I didn't expect a response, said that perhaps he shouldn't entrust such private communications to Roger, but that I wasn't going to report it to the targeted. And I haven't. I didn't see then, nor do I see now what was to be gained.
John McIntyre from RealClearWorld has urged that we communicate a couple of weeks after the elections when things simmer down a bit, and I would be delighted to find something to do for them. Still, I cannot understand why Jason hasn't had the decency to contact me. Honestly, it's rude.
If you've got any insight about this, please let me know. Sorry to waste your time bitching, but this is the way it is for me at the moment.
Crappy Packers Shut Out Crappy Jets
Don't know how else to sum it up. I don't have TV, so I had to "watch" it on CBS's graphical game feed. The Jets had three turnovers---two picks and one fumble---and the Packers had 3 field goals, 3 out of 4 to the Jets' 0 out of 1 attempts. The last time the Jets were shut out at home was in 2006, to the Bears, and the loss snapped a 5-game win streak, leaving them at 5-2. The Packers are now 5-3, and play the Cowboys next week before their bye week, so they have time to get a lot healthier at a crucial time in their season.
So, they could go into their bye week 6-3, which would be pretty good, considering the injuries. Apparently, they're showing some depth on the defensive side. On the other hand, they're going to have to play the Vikings in their dome later on, and possibly against the backup QB, who may pose more problems for them than the injured Favre did.
On the whole, it's evidence of a coach who understands what his priorities are and has a knack for plucking talent out of the heap.
The Plum Line’s Greg Sargent Is a Douchebag
Just in case you didn't know. I was going to write about it, but William Jacobson has already, sparing me the trouble:
Greg Sargent, who for months has used his megaphone at The Washington Post to twist and turn almost every statement by Sharron Angle into a supposed call for violence or some other thing it was not, now demands Context! for the audio recording in which a CBS station in Alaska was caught planning negative coverage of a Joe Miller event.
Sargent misleadingly titles his blog post Alaska station says Breitbart Web site audio attack is bogus, but if you actually read his post, the quote from the Alaska station actually verifies that the recording was real. So why the title?
Just really megadouchey, Greg, no matter what the context.
UPDATE: In case you haven't noticed, so is Mad King Charles.
Closing Out Tabs, 10-31-10
Had a busy day, yesterday, and other posters were doing a bang-up job, so I just nuked a lot of stuff that's being well covered elsewhere, such as the Anchorage CBS affiliate who were taped on the answering machine of Joe Miller's public relations guy plotting to smear him. Lovely. The funny part is that the guy who made the original availability call called back to say, hey, I accidentally left a long message! Darned iPhone! Anyway, Palin came out against those scum as she also did against Princess Lisa's getting a radio commentator booted, which Bob covered yesterday.
Really, it's not surprising. CBS has been the worst of the networks for some time now, news-wise. I say that it's been worst because NBC is more up-front about their sympathies. ABC have bee trying to bring a little fairness to their coverage of the elections, and other matters, which is why they're getting withering fire from MMFA and other lefties for the temerity of allowing Andrew Breitbart to comment on their programs, causing them to have to issue this statement to the proggtards, yesterday. Think Progress also had this lunatic piece about the relations of a dude who threatened Patty Murray blaming the Svengali-like influence of Glenn Beck.
Yesterday, too, Jerome Corsi had this Issa report on how ObamaCo use taxpayer resources illegally to build support for his agenda. Also lost in the sturm und drang was Matthew Vadum's latest piece on ACORN and Shaun "of the Dead" Donovan. Victor Davis Hanson is puzzled by the same things that puzzle many of us. AIDS advocate hecklers caused Cool Jerk to lose it and lie about who supports and opposes world AIDS intervention, the Bush initiative that MFM dares not acknowledge.
According to Rasmussen, 2/3 of Americans favor getting rid of everyone in Congress and starting over. The 1/3 that doesn't is largely proggtardy, but they're going to feel differently after Tuesday. The Hostages are keeping you motivated for Tuesday, with Dr. David Janda on health care rationing. No Sheeples is way into the Halloween thing, which is scarier for some than others this year. Jimmie's tab clearing is really generally better than mine, so make it a daily stop, and never forget Teach's Sorta Blogless Sunday Pin-Up.
New, to me, this week, is The Belch, which shows promise.
Some interesting intentions at Mass today…
Not as serious as BJTex's below. But there was some very interesting wording in the intentions today, an oblique reference to troops abroad being able to vote, and a very strongly worded one about prayers for those newly arrived political leaders and those about to depart being gracious in victory and defeat, respectively.
Even though we do have a lot of good Northeastern Democrats in our parish (and have had intentions showing as such as well), I guess some people can read polls. Go Nan Hayworth!
What Is Love? Baby, Don’t Hurt Me
Please don't roll over!
Feeling the linky love from Stacy, who has a Rule 5 Extra Chubby Chaser Edition for me. I've got my own Rule 5 thing going on, so tell me whether you think Vida Guerra is chubby, or Rubenesque, or whatever. (Probably NSFW)
Keefy O: Jon Stewart’s jumped the shark!
And Olbermann ought to know. From personal experience. Because he did so a long time ago...
But who knows? There may still be an upside to the far-left hate and outrage market? But I don't think so; I see the American people thirsting for actual reporting, fact based debate, and a reality based discussion of issues; and the market for universe of lies based analysis, the specialty of Keef, Ed S, and Madcow is saturated already.
Still, to me, this seems like a one sided cat fight so far. And while I can't wait for Stewart to snark back, I wouldn't see it firsthand anyway since I don't waste eyeball time on his show.
Sunday Intentions from BJ Tex
For his boss's family, who have come through hugely for him during his time of troubles:
Late Friday afternoon I received a call from the office manager. Instantly I noticed her voice was shaking and shaken. She immediately told me that the owner and boss, Peter, has rushed from the offices because ... his 24 year old son had been killed.
Jon Stewart is full of crap and his parties are a huge borefest
Psst, this is my clever way making a point about proggies that spread misinformation about conservatism and everything associated with it based on their own bias and mean-spiritedness instead of listening to the other side with a respectful attitude.
What's up, Mama Grizzlies! For those of you who've been hibernating the last few days, a wake for Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert's careers was held in Washington, DC today. I didn't watch a bit of it, but here's what I bet happened.
Sam Waterston read a poem about the evil, rich, white, male Republicans that run Wall Street. That portion of the show was sponsored by TD Ameritrade.
Sheryl Crowe sang, "Love is Free, but toilet paper will cost you 10 bucks a square, Peasant".
Fatwa-lover,Cat Stevens Yusuf Islam Kylie Minogue sang Peace Train. (Love "Tea for the Tillerman", Kylie.)
Jon Stewart finally arrived to perform an interpretive dance to "At Last" while B-roll highlights of President Obama's '08 campaign played behind them. Then they rolled out a shrub with a sign on it the said, "Bush" and he lit it on fire. GET IT? GET IT? Chill, Greenies, the lighter fluid was made from whale blubber, so it was organic.
Stephen Colbert picked up Jon Stewart's dry cleaning.
For the finale, Arianna Huffington mowed down all 500 porta-potties with her giant bus. Then the 100 person crowd tipped over both garbage cans, lit the contents on fire and sang "Sarah Palin is a dum-dum" to the tune of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".
That's what I heard anyway. What a bunch of Cleveland Steamers.
If you really want to know what happened ask Keder andMamaswati. They were there, and they got some great pics. Enjoy.
GOTV for the GOP
Last weekend before the real polling occurs -- you can sign up here to make calls for the GOP.
The sign-up process is easy, you're given an easy script to read, and the people being called don't get your phone numbers (their caller ID will show the number of the local GOP office, so if they return calls, it won't go to you). Even better - you don't even have to dial the numbers! The set-up will call for you (so you don't even know these people's #s)!
Amusingly, when I went to look up the link today, I got routed to this page. Hey - that motivates me!
