New Jersey Teachers Unions Gone Wild!

To get fired, you have to be practically f*cking in the hallway! Awesome!
What? No eye candy? I give you Monica Bellucci:
NOAA Predicts Bitter Winter in East, Oil Prices on Rise [Correction]
NOAA predicts bitter cold in New England, and cold everywhere else in the Eastern US, extending into Texas, due to the effects of a strong La Nina. The weakening dollar, meanwhile, means that oil prices are going up for the US at large. The drilling moratorium will exacerbate the situation. Cash-strapped Americans will find the winter difficult going.
If this scenario materializes, the Obama Administration will obviously be hardest hit, especially considering the miserable failure of the scandal-, incompetence- and fraud-ridden Federal weatherization program.
CORRECTION: Thanks to T-Bone. It is actually The Farmer's Almanac that's predicting a cold Eastern winter. I'm a Bastardi fan, so I'm linking to the Accu-Weather prediction, which is warmer than usual in the South, colder than usual in the Northwest, and about average everywhere else.
Obama likely to focus on deficit in the next two years
Sure. With a laser like focus I'm sure. And the check's in the mail. And he won't, well, you know ...
Preparing for political life after a bruising election, President Barack Obama will put greater emphasis on fiscal discipline, a nod to a nation sick of spending and to a Congress poised to become more Republican, conservative and determined to stop him.
He is already giving clues about how he will govern in the last two years of his term.
Obama will try to make gains on deficit reduction, education and energy. He will enforce his health care and financial overhauls and try to protect them from repeal should Republicans win control of Capitol Hill. He will use executive authority when blocked by Congress, and steel for scrutiny and investigations if the GOP is in charge.
I don't think I need to remind POWIP readers that this is the same hooey, the same snake oil, that Obama was peddling during the 2008 campaign, and as recently as last year; just before he developed amnesia on his promises of fiscal responsibility and instead focused on ramming through Obamacare and financial non-reform in defiance of the wishes of an overwhelming majority of the American people.
This arrogation of power gave rise to the Tea-Partiers, a group he evidently now believes he can pander to like all of his other special interest blocs by a mellifluous paean to his overarching sense of fiscal responsibility. This coming from the leader of the party that's sense of fiscal responsibility has resulted in nearly tripling of the spending excesses of the Bush-era Republicans:
- Republicans in control for 12 years: Added $4.034 trillion (avg $336.17 billion per year)
- Republicans in control during Bush era: Added $3.201 trillion (avg $533.5 billion per year)
- Democrats in control of Congress during Bush/Obama era: Added $4.603 trillion (avg 1.48 trillion per year)
JUST WORDS! And, so much for the supposed equivalent irresponsibility of both parties...
This is a national problem, and a stark justification for supporting Republican candidates based on a national need to stop, and indeed repudiate, Obama's agenda. It will be difficult, to be sure, especially considering that the President will most certainly use executive orders to shape policy by fiat once he no longer has a lock on Congress; as he has already demostrated his willingness to do via decrees by the Department of Energy, FCC, EPA, and HHS.
It underscores the urgent exhortations by bloggers like Dan and Ace to engage in get out the vote (GOTV) activities, whether formally through the campaigns or informally; in family discussions, on the job, or even your own individual coffee-klatsch.
We all need to do what we can to encourage voters to turn out, and turn back the socialist communist Obamites; because no less than our country's, our own, and our children's future is what is at stake.
Be the wave.
The Death of My Childhood
I foresee this becoming a running theme for me; you've been forewarned.
Sony announced today that they have made their last shipment of the beloved Sony Walkman. I remember mowing the lawn as a teenager with my Walkman. I remember falling asleep at night, listening to my Walkman. Anyone remember "auto-reverse?"
Merry Frischmas!
From Teh Daily Squeak:
DEB FRISCH Marched out in cuffs...Ninety days, no matrix out.
Five years supervised probation....Mental health evaluation.
Required mental health treatment...
No access to Internet during probation...
Probation officer to be given all Internet logins and passwords...
PO to be able to search her residence at will...Judge called Frisch a "dangerous offender", noted that she
had been escalating for years, and stated she was not taking
probation seriously....KARMA: Federal court employees sent Lane County judge paperwork
documenting Deb's "terror threats" against court staff...
That'll teach her to mess with frocked cowf*ckers.
Pathology Results for BJ Tex
We received the results and Dad has stage 4 glioblastoma. I'm sorry I just can't think of anything else to say right now....except I really wish it were me instead.
The Function of American Public Education
The function of American public education is to make pliant subjects who feel guilt, but not shame.
Discuss. Or not.
“Star Wackers”: An Editorial Note
I think that the Quaids are "wackers," but I was tempted to change Snaqwells' header to "Star Whackers," because we're talking about someone who whacks wacky stars, particularly by causing them to overdose on drugs or autoerotically asphyxiate themselves to death. This is why I can't:

Monday Morning Tabs, 10-25-10 [UPDATED]
Beginning with Doug Ross's "How Bush Destroyed the Economy in Only Eight Short Years," which actually highlights Cuomo's role in creating the Mortgage Bubble, beginning with his actions as a functionary for Bill Clinton. Keep in mind that Cuomo pushed for Paterson to assign Gillibrand to the Senate seat vacated by Hillary when she took the Secretary of State position. A moderate of some independence in the House, representing her district, Gillibrand veered sharply left during her time in the Senate, flip-flopping on a host of issues. Gillibrand (like Turbo effing Timmy) is a graduate of my alma mater, so I wish I could like her, but I can't, which is why I've been in Joe DioGuardi's corner.
The Buffalo News also has a piece outlining some of the findings of an investigation into how Paterson, Cuomo and company repeatedly botched the process of awarding the contract for a huge casino, costing the people of NY millions while getting precious pennies for their campaign coffers. Incompetence and venality do not make a pretty picture, and almost all the high-profile Democrats in NY State government are implicated. What I take away from this is pretty much what I took away from the bonuses scandal at Fannie and Freddie, which made millions for such luminaries as Franklin Raines and Jamie Gorelick, namely, that it's incredibly depressing how small the bribes are as a matter of absolute comparison for which politicians will shackle their constituencies with massive debts.
Naturally, that doesn't prevent the Buffalo News from endorsing Cuomo, because it's become "trendy to sneer at 'career politicians'." You know what's worse than helping to drive the nation and state into deep insolvency? Saying something stupid about homosexuals.
The Boston Globe goes with Dems right down the line.
The extent of persiflage lefties will employ in their desperation is brilliantly depicted in this Greenroom offering. Read Jimmie Bise on Jonathan Martin, too. Anything to drown out the extraordinary revelations regarding Eric Holder and company dredged up by . . . The Washington Post? Their desperation is also revealed in strange polling practices, and decisions regarding timing. Isn't it more important that Giannoulias not suffer an October surprise than that voters have information before an election? NOT ONE DIME!
I mean, what's a little fraud, eh, when the voters are too stupid to know what's good for them?
Which brings us to the whole issue of election fraud, recently touched on by Rocketman. As you're aware, the DoJ has expressed no interest in seeing the rolls cleaned, as is required by law, so it's no great shock to find out that lefty groups are suing for the right to commit election fraud.
It's all in a day's work. But don't worry, Nancy: you're about to get the credit for what you've done.
UPDATE: Treasury manipulated data to understate AIG's losses. Disgusting.
It’s Our Birthright!
Established 1982 via the Socialists in France.
I mean, that birthright is younger than I am. It's younger than both my sisters. It's younger than my husband's Eurovan (that caught fire at a gas station a couple years back, but that's neither here nor there).
To compare - here's a list of official retirement ages from around Europe. A few countries still have separate retirement ages for men and women (illegal as per the EU bigshots... and it doesn't make much sense, given that women are much more long-lived than men. But the countries with sex-separate retirement ages are phasing them to equality over several years, and some are doing it cold turkey.) Countries with retirement age 67: Norway, Denmark, and Germany in years to come (normal retirement age for us Gen Xers in the U.S., too). Many have 65 as the comparison point.
As noted in many other pension/retirement-related posts here at POWIP, if you want to retire young: SAVE YOUR OWN DAMN MONEY.
Of course, in the Socialist Paradise of France, it's tough to do that, given you're being taxed to let a bunch of whiny brats retire at the age of 60.
Only if you guys had increased your smoking habits, instead of banning smoking in various public places. Where was you patriotism then? Why did you undermine your birthright!
Well, there's always the Soylent Green/Logan's Run solutions.
