Your daily dose of schadenfreude courtesy of Princess Lisa M-something
Whose drive to power led her to declare as an Independant after losing to Joe Miller in the Alaska Republican Senate Primary; you know, like that other uber-principled great American and STAUNCH! conservative Charlie Crist.
Things have been pretty much going her way lately. The polls are admittedly close. And late Wednesday she won an important ruling by the Alaska Supreme court, dispensing with traditional convention, that would have state workers provide voters with lists of write-in candidates, as well as posting them prominently at the polling place, so that her name could be properly spelled on the ballots; overturning a recent ruling that would have forbid them doing so, or even telling voters write in candidate's name within 200 feet of the polls, since it was rightly viewed, at least in my humble opinion, as a form of electioneering. Having a difficult name to spell, she needed such a favorable ruling to ensure that she get as many intended votes as possible.
But this special change of long-standing tradition, seemingly for Princess Lisa's benefit, bothered folks from both parties; especially among Republicans who considered the maneuver to be dirty pool.
Enter the frontier resourcefulness and pluck of the citizens of Alaska:
Dozens of people flooded the Midtown Division of Elections office this afternoon to register as write-in candidates for Tuesday's U.S. Senate election. Many said the effort is meant to protest a recent court ruling that allows a list of write-in candidates to appear at polling places.
The Anchorage office received 56 Senate write-in applications -- in person or by fax -- in just 45 minutes, said election clerk Raymond McAndrews at 5 p.m.
KFQD 750 AM radio host Dan Fagan, a backer of Republican nominee Joe Miller, has been urging voters to sign up in an act of "civil disobedience" -- defying what he calls the courts' illegal decision.
Sweet. So the Judge not only legislates from the bench, but overturns long-standing tradition as well, but the Alaskans aren't falling for it. Since the Judge couldn't very well write the decision for Princess Lisa alone, as much as she may have felt it her birthright, he had to make the order general-for all write in candidates; so a lot of folks suddenly decided to register as write-in candidates.
As our Friend Jeff Goldstein might say; OUTLAW!
Anyway, too bad we all can't do something similar when SCOTUS makes a sketchy ruling. But you never know, in this case Alaska could be trend-setters...

“…so a lot of folks suddenly decided to register as write-in candidates.”
I like it; hopefully there will be a few named Lisa and perhaps another Murkowski (or similar name) to add some fog to the war.
“Anyway, too bad we all can’t do something similar when SCOTUS makes a sketchy ruling”
There was the group that tried to apply eminent domain on David Souter’s Vermont house after the Kelo decision. Not surprisingly they could not gain traction in the “People’s Republic”.
Pity, Souter doesn’t live in Alaska or Texas. ;)
