Beefcake Friday Volume IV (Skyline Edition in Balfour’s Yard or as we now call it Sexy Camp)
So for those of you who follow me on twitter you know that I am A) an Eric Balfour Fangirl and 2) Have been waiting FOREVAH for Skyline to come out. For those of you who don't follow me on twitter.....why am I even talking to you?
So, about the movie....first let me say that people who bring babies to the movie theater are bad bad people and should have their fingernails removed while being forced to listen to Gwyneth Paltrow sing.
Now the movie...let me start with the few criticisms I have. 1) there are some seriously over the top chicks in this movie,(but then, what really fun Alien Invasion movie is complete without them, so maybe that gets a pass. :) ) B) the bit where Terry's car gets stomped would have been far more effective if we hadn't already seen it 97 times in a trailer, and 3) there is one place in the movie where 2 people should have been dead...for those of you who've seen it you know what I'm talking about and for those of you who haven't, you will know it when you see it, I promise.
Now on to the good stuff...and there's a lot. First Bravo and standing ovation to Eric Balfour(Jarrod) and Donald Faison(Terry) for turning in kick ass performances. There was no green screen and no tennis balls for markers they.....pretended....and very very well.
This movie was produced and shot for not a lot of money by Rogue Pictures and then distributed by Universal Studios. The cast and crew obviously had a great time making this movie and their dedication and imagination show. I'm hoping that when the DVD comes out....there's a blooper reel....because I know it HAS to be hysterical!!
Kudos to whoever wrote the "spy on people with the telescope during the party" scene....GENIUS and HElarious!!!!
The special effects in this movie are freakin' amazing! The alien ships are cool and have some cool abilities. Watching them ...um....well, do what they do was just gross enough to be fun but not nightmare inducing.
Alien Ships
Eric and Donald play off each other like they have been in a hundred movies together and Scottie Thompson(Elaine) is wonderful as Jarrod's "could you please just grow up" girlfriend. She does a little growing and changing of her own and delivers a wonderfully emotional performance. Also....girlfriend kicks some ass!!!
For those of you expecting the "ha! Earth rocks!!" ending..well don't. I won't tell you what happens...cuz, well that would be mean....but it's not something you'll be expecting.
For my fellow Balfour's Yard inhabitants there is LOADS of (unintentional but there none the less) HAND pr0n!!!!! And now that I think about it... EYE pr0n too ...This however, isn't it...

I really can't say a whole lot more without giving stuff away and I don't want to get killed...so I will say I enjoyed the movie very much, even though Alien Invasions .......not really my thing, but Eric is and he's why I went and I'm glad I did. It was a fun ride and stuff blows up.....what else could you possibly need?
Oh, one other thing.....it is safe to take your older kids which in this day and age is hard to come by and a good thing.
I have one question for Eric.....dude what IS this fascination you seem to have with axes? :)
Also? Eric, if you could make your next movie a nice, safe, romantic comedy, ...my heart rate would appreciate it. Thanks ever so.

Wait, what? Axes? If dude is packing around an axe, I’ll go see it. I mean, I was going to see it anyway because you asked me (told me?) so nicely, but Axe prOn > romantic comedy.
…Now I just have to wait the two years it’ll take to get to my little middle-of-nowhere theater.

Well, I came looking for the beefcake, as was advertised at the Legal Insurrection blog, but found a bloodied man. That was the still picture. Then I watched the video, and listened to the song. And I thought, yes, he is very good looking, and the song is just androgynous enough that I could relate, even to the “marry me and take you home” bit, though that is a “piece of work in progress” legally, for sure. Though I shall avoid the movie as too violent, and with reference to the “over the top chicks” (whatever they might be) probably not good for my tender eyes. I too shall await a romantic comedy, perhaps with this guy in the music video and some other beefcake guy, hopefully. And that, I assure you, my “heart rate would appreciate.” Though I shall not camp outside the theater waiting for such a “guy flick,” for I’m sure it will still be a long time coming. Yes, we had “Brokeback Mountain,” but they did not live happily ever after, now did they? Nope. Still, a guy can dream can’t he? But thanks for the romantic video, ’twas good for my gay ol’ heart.

@Jim…no…the Brokeback guys didn’t really get a happily ever after, but then so few of us do? I’m glad you liked the video..Eric is pretty that’s for sure. As for the “marry you and take home” thing…I personally have no objection so there’s one vote in your favor. :)
@Houston sorry about the plumbing…I’m assuming you’re talking about boy plumbing…there’s girl plumbing in the movie. Scottie Thompson is hot.

it’s not that I dont think it sweet or anything. I do… it’s just – I dunno. I mean, the last time they came around they made a big deal of the marcomet (sic) doilies and all of the nick-knacks you and the other smell-good of the species had all over the place. And I am just saying that Bob was mocked incessantly for the Disney World sweatshirt and matching socks you all got for him and made him wear. Dan still hasn’t noticed that the magazines have been replaced with People and Entertainment rags… but others have. And I am all for a good ribbing… but to unplug the xbox for the aroma wick thing (which by the way sprayed directly on my hunting boots) – there’s just you know… the new carpeting is nice. And we appreciate the matching placesettings. I dunno. Removing the Farrah poster and replacing it with that OKiefe (???) – just might take some getting used to.

Eric did good job in this movie. Aside from sexy body and a melting stare, he acted in a very genuine way, almost forgot that he’s acting all along. Hope there’s a skyline 2.
