Goodbyes

This was the Packers fan I asked for prayers for a couple months ago.

Bill and Herb Dailing, 2004

A couple of months ago one of the men I adored most in this world, my Uncle Bill, suffered a stroke. Since then he had been struggling through a tortuous attempt at recovery. At 1:15 Wednesday afternoon his suffering stopped.

I've written ad nauseam about my dad. Bill was his little brother and best friend. I'm so glad Bill was too far away to watch my dad's death and that Dad wasn't here for the last two months. When I was pregnant with my daughter I was thrilled to find out she was a girl, but a part of me was also bummed as I thought about how great it would be to have two little boys if they would be like Dad and Bill (in fact we were going to name her Bill). Years ago there was a television show called Sisters about the relationships and lives of four grown sisters. In one episode the matriarch of the family said that your siblings are the only people you have from the cradle to the grave (paraphrasing). That always stuck with me. Dad and Bill had the ideal relationship most mothers dream of for their children.

Like Dad, Bill was a child of the depression. He went on to serve in Korea and marry Jan, the woman he would remain in love with for the rest of his life. They raised my four cousins whom I also adore. He managed an auto parts warehouse until his retirement, then volunteered at the information desk at the Quad City International Airport and at Arrowhead Ranch, an agency that helps at risk youth. He was a very dedicated member of his church and was truly a light in the world who found ways to glorify God simply by the way he lived his everyday life. So that's the form letter stuff. Here are the memories of him that I cherish.

I can't remember exactly what the gift was, but in spite of being a huge Packers fan (the only kind they make), he gave me some sort of Bears memorabilia as a gift. At the time I didn't fully grasp the rivalry and hadn't thought about it in years, but as I was curled up in the fetal position watching the Superbowl Shuffle on YouTube during the last NFL post-season I remembered that and realized the greater significance.

I remember that he owned very fancy things like one of those stereos you could dub tapes with (someone tell Emma what tapes were). He used it to introduce me to the music of Chet Atkins and Nanci Griffith and the comedy of Steven Wright - all in the same week.

I remember him every time I flip by the Crook and Chase country countdown on the radio.

I remember him when I smell a swimming pool because of all the summer gatherings spent and Bill and Jan's.

I remember that the last time He and Jan visited Washington he made the 4 hour trip to my new home to meet my new husband and child in Northeast Washington. He was already suffering terribly with arthritis, and I could tell when he arrived that he probably shouldn't have made the trip.

I remember the Silvis Country Music festival, Whitey's Ice Cream and Harris Pizza.

I remember that his arthritis caused him to have a really hard time sleeping. He would catch some Zs where ever he could; bed, couch, chair, etc. and joked that he "slept around". The look on my chiropractors face when I used that line a few months ago reminded me of that.

I remember when he called me out of the blue shortly after my dad died on an afternoon that I really needed it. I remember that he ended that call like he always did, by saying "I love ya'."

I remember that he had a running prayer list hundreds of entries long.

I remember a hundred other things that there just aren't words for. But most of all I will remember what every other life he touched will remember, that Bill Dailing had the biggest heart of any man I've ever known.

Goodbye for now, Uncle Billy. I love you too.

Oprah says it’s ok for us to like James Frey again

When the rise and fall of James Frey occurred in 2006 I was infuriated... with everyone but James Frey. I've always wanted to address it, but it hasn't been timely until now (my writing was limited to grocery lists in '06). Here's some background:

James Frey wrote a book, A Million Little Pieces, based on his journey through drug addiction and recovery. He didn't write it as a memoir, a novel or a self-help book. He just wrote a book... that someone wanted to publish. They published it as a memoir. As far as I'm concerned this was his only mistake. He should have spoken up about the genre... I guess.

Oprah read it, and then made it one of her book club selections, which is like a Pulitzer for writers that want to actually sell books that people will read. He was golden.

It really is a great book, next to no one disagrees with that to this day. His apparent contempt for punctuation alone earned my eternal thanks, and it got me through what I now see was a touch of postpartum. (I knew I was supposed to want to hold my baby, but I didn't want to hold my baby, but I knew I should hold my baby, so I forced myself to... with my baby in one hand and A Million Little Pieces in the other to fend off the boredom.)

I can remember thinking that I hoped no one thought every detail true and every line of dialogue verbatim. That would have been impossible, and obviously you would change the names of people you were in rehab with.

Guess Oprah didn't know. I think the frat boys at The Smoking Gun knew, but didn't care. Turns out he did change names, dramatize dialogue and rewrite some of his own truth (I wouldn't be surprised to learn "own truth" is a phrase owned by Harpo). Oprah defended him until she didn't. Frey found that out when he returned to her show for what he thought was a "discussion about truth in America". His publisher, Nan Talese, appeared with him. It turned out to be the "James Frey is a lying liar Mc-liarstein" show. The Smoking Gun guy was on, but I can't remember if it was live or memorex. I clearly remember video of a hodge-podge of people like Maureen Dowd and Joel Stein (yeah, the clip show dude) scolding him... on tape. The court of Oprah offers no right to confront your accuser. And with that the American literati exiled the leper, talent and looking at the big picture be damned. Here are his takes on the truth and the aftermath:

(Which you can read at my place because I don't know how to make videos show up on here.)

For your consideration: Jenny’s Holy Week playlist

A youtube link dump of what I'm listening to this week.

I would also appreciate prayers for my uncle Bill who is in the hospital recovering from a stroke. We're amazed he even survived, but I guess they messed up his catheter and hurt his kidneys, which is making him very uncomfortable and unable to rest. He's my dad's little brother, and I hate the thought of him being in extra pain.

I have some things to say about federal workers

I'll probably regret it, but I... ugh.  I was checking in to post a stupid story I found in my local paper, and found Adam's post about the shutdown. I agree with him 100%.

I read enough of the comments (and plenty of other posts, comments and tweets from across the web) to convince me that there are some misconceptions about what the majority of those that would have been directly impacted by the shutdown do.

Do you remember the last time your privates were zapped while scaling an electric fence chasing a criminal illegal alien because you needed to deport him?  Oh, you've never done that?  Well, my husband has.  Where did you spend Christmas '05?  My husband spent his working a double shift.  Yes, he got paid overtime.  Many in the private sector get overtime for that too.

Then there's my dad.  After he got out of the Navy he went to work at the post office.  (That's right, I'm the offspring of a very disgruntled postal worker.)  I guarantee you that no pundit of new or old media is working harder for a buck than he did.

I also have a loved one who works as a social worker for the state.  She worked her way through college for the masters degree required to do her job.  She lives in a lovely mobile home park not far from here, but we don't get to see her much.  She's very busy.

Yes, federal bureaucracies suck.  No one knows (or knew) that better than my husband and father.  However, the fight for smaller government has led to many conservatives using a ridiculously broad brush on federal employees (and public school teachers and law enforcement) , and I just can't be any part of it.  Mainly because every time I read this stuff feels like getting slapped in the (possibly thin-skinned) face.  I take comfort in my caviar and luxury car's soft corinthian leather.  Just kidding, my car doesn't have leather seats, but it does have 130,000 miles and a squeak that's getting louder and louder.

As for the shutdown, Mr KT would have been furloughed, which would wind up being a delay.  And yes, just like people that know they could be laid off soon, we were preparing for it.  However, Francesca, the woman that cleans my husband's office wouldn't have been considered essential.  She would lose actual work and pay.  I'm not sure how prepared she was.

By the way, while furloughed, Mr. KT would have gone to work, but many people he needs to call and fax to do his job wouldn't have been there.  So those that were rooting for a shutdown were rooting for him to get paid for sitting in his cubicle (quite possibly consuming lots of donuts).

So that's why I think conservatives stink this week.

Oh.  I hope I wasn't being unfair or generalizing.  There's always exceptions to the rule.  I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

P.S. While I'm disclosing my big government associations, my mom was Sec. of Transportation Ray LaHood's secretary at... wait for it... a bureaucracy that oversaw other bureaucracies.  I'm pretty sure my first political event was a coffee my mom hosted at our house.  There's a slight chance I've sat on the lap of a member of the Obama administration.

From Arizona and back, no justice for an old friend pt 2

I can't remember if I crossposted my original post on this.  I felt conflicted about writing it at all at the time.  In 1997 my friend was lured into the woods, shot in the back, then in the head.   Today the animal charged in his murder was sentenced to death for killing 3 more people in Arizona, one a child. You're probably familiar with the Shawna Forde case.

It seems like I should say something about it...

Jon was a sweet guy, and I firmly believe he was getting on track to straighten his life out, and I believe he would have been successful.  My thoughts are with his family (not to mention the other families).  Closure is truly bull****, but at least they have an (alleged) answer.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2/16/11

I feel really conflicted about writing this at all.  I've been debating if and how I should write about this for the last year and a half.  After stumbling upon a related story yesterday, I haven't been able to get this out of my head.  I guess the time is now.

In the fall of 1997 I was working at a crummy job to finance living in a crummy apartment with my crummy boyfriend.  At this point in my life I was specializing at making really crummy decisions. Crummy boyfriend is on the phone.  I'm scrubbing dried Hamburger Helper off the stove.  Crummy boyfriend hangs up the phone and says,

"They found Narf's body in the Palisades." Frozen silence.  What the hell does that mean?  What d'ya think it means?  He's dead.  Dead.

Narf was a nickname for Jonathan Bumstead.  I hate it when someone dies and they suddenly have a thousand best friends.  We weren't that close.  It was a casual friendship, but I was very fond of him, and I'm sadder and angrier about his murder today than I have ever been.

Jon had just turned 18 and had a very serious drug problem that he was taking the beginning steps in recovering from.  Over the last 13 years there has been a lot of speculation mixed with facts over the details of his murder.  I'm going to piece them together the best I can.  The following is a compilation of witness accounts detailed in the plethora of articles written over the last year and a half, along with my own speculations.  I'll provide links to them all at the end.

On September 21, 1997 Bumstead was lured to the Palisades area of Douglas County, Washington under the guise of going shooting, perhaps camping.  He was with Jason E. Bush and 2 other witnesses.  He was shot in the back with a .270 rifle, witnesses did not see the first shot occur, but heard a bang, then heard Bumstead moaning and asking for help.  Bush then shot him in the head.  Witnesses then claim Bush pointed the rifle at each of them and conveyed the message that if they talked they would meet the same fate.

That was that.  A hiker found his body.  I believe they had to use dental records to identify him.  There was a memorial held at the counseling center where he had been seeking help for his drug addiction followed by a few informal memorials organized by his family.  I attended as many as I could, usually with two friends in particular.  As I write this I wonder where they are now.  We lost touch when I left Crummy boyfriend.  I hope they're well.

The last time I saw Bumstead was when he knocked on my door in the middle of a weekday afternoon.  I think it was after his birthday, that would place it shortly before his death.  It must have been my day off.  I'm glad for that.  For reasons I can't recall, I had videotaped an episode of Jerry Springer with the band, Gwar, on it, then taken the measure of labeling the tape as such with a big fat marks-a-lot marker.  He noticed it on the shelf and got really excited.  We put it in this VCR contraption all the kids used to have, and I'll never forget how amused he was by it.  In hindsight, it was adorable.

At this point in my life I was no angel, but there was zero tolerance for drugs like meth in my house.  Jon acknowledged that, but asked if he could package some for sale on my washing machine in the bathroom.  I reluctantly agreed as long as Crummy boyfriend wouldn't find out.  I knew he was worried about owing people money.  Actually, he could've gone in there and done it, and I never would've known.  It was nice of him to ask first.  He left about 15 minutes later.  I never saw him again.

The case seemed to go cold fast.  The motive was assumed to be drug related.  Although, I always wondered why, if it was over him owing money, they would kill him.  On July 28, 2009 the news broke that there was finally a suspect to charge, Jason E. Bush.  He was arrested for his part in a brutal home invasion/double murder in Arizona.  Coincidentally, I believe Jon was actually born in Flagstaff, Arizona.  It seems knowing he was off the streets made the witnesses to Bumstead's murder feel safe enough to come forward.  Bush is also charged with the July 1997 murder of a transient, Hector Manuel Lopez Partida.  The details of that case are also pretty gruesome.

Unfortunately, Narf and Bush seem to have known each other through associations with white supremacy groups.  Bush denies involvement in all the murders he's charged with, but witness accounts claim Bush said he killed Narf for being a "race traitor" for dating the girlfriend of another member of this white supremacist group.  It is my personal opinion that Bush is a sociopath that digs killing people and sought out all these other motivations to justify it.

I knew Jon was mixed up this ilk, but I in no way believe the young man I knew had the heart, or lack thereof, to be the "brother" of a homicidal racist like Bush.  I think his drug use led him to this dark world where he didn't belong and couldn't get out of.  I don't believe for a second that, in his heart, he believed that he was superior to anyone else because of his race.

It doesn't matter now,  he's gone.  His alleged killer will probably receive the death penalty in Arizona and never stand trial in Washington.  He hasn't confessed to Jon's murder.  Jon will never get his day in court.  The acts Bush is accused of are so evil that there is simply no earthly justice available to inflict.  There's not much anyone can do about it but bear witness to the person Jon was and wonder what he could have been.  This was my small way of doing that.  I continue to pray for his family and hope they know that Jon was loved and grieved for by many who will never forget him.

Shawna Forde, Minuteman Leader, guilty of killing dad, daughter to fight illegals

Former Wenatchee man suspect in fourth homicide

Bumstead's parents waiting for justice

Bush's rifle at murder

Murder case sticks against border zealot

Update: Shawna Forde, ringleader in the Arizona case, sentenced to death

Update: 4/7/11: The more I think about this, the more I think this is such a bunch of crap.  God bless the families of the Arizona victims, that crime was unfathomably brutal, but the use of words like "justice" and "closure" in relation to Jon's case doesn't ring true to me.

The Bumsteads have an answer now, but they will never see justice for Jon.  Bush hasn't even admitted he did it.  I can't help but wonder if Jon hadn't been an addict or had the unfortunate associations he did if the Arizona authorities would have tried harder to at least get a confession to the Washington murders out of Bush.

If that is the case I kind of understand it... but it's still incredibly sad.   And what about Partida, the transient he's also accused of killing?

No, the Bumstead and Partida families have an answer (that they still have to use language like "charged with" and "allegedly" with), but this isn't justice and it sure as hell isn't closure.

Another update 4/7/11: Wenatchee authorities officially announced they probably won't prosecute Bush in Washington.  Jon's mother, Frieda Bumstead's response:

"Bumstead’s mother, Freda Bumstead of East Wenatchee, said Wednesday she can accept that Bush likely will not stand trial locally for her son’s death but the situation is still hard to deal with.

“You won’t understand unless you walk in our shoes, but it’s not going to bring Jonathan back, or anybody else that he killed,” she said. “There is always that missing feeling that will always go on.”

She added that “it would be nice if he wouldn’t sit in prison for years and years and years, but that’s the way our system works.”

The Weekender 3.4.11 Tucker and Natalie and Charlie and Me

This could be important.  Dan Collins is waving a big, fat steak in the media's face regarding corruption and unbelievably stupid practices in the lead up to the financial meltdown.

Some lefty called in a bomb threat to a place where Gov. Walker was speaking... or had spoken.  Anyhoops, there wasn't a real bomb, but there's never been a real act of violence carried out in the name of the Tea Party movement so whatevs.

@MayorEmanuel revealed himself.  He's a college professor and former publisher of a failed online punkz... Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Mike Huckabee is in trouble for claims that Natalie Portman is glorifying out-of-wedlock births... or something. A couple of thoughts.  I'm assuming she didn't plan this pregnancy.  She's chosen life, and is engaged to the father.  Exactly what I did except I wasn't nominated for an Oscar that year.  I understand the point he is trying to make.  Natalie Portman has the means for single motherhood to not have the impact on her finances and future compared to a "regular" unwed mother.  He's afraid she'll make it look easy.

If young women haven't picked up on the challenges that face single mothers then Natalie Portman probably isn't their main role model anyway.

Also, this is her life.  Assume she does carry the responsiblity of being a role model to young women, she didn't make a conscious decision to pose in Maxim.  She accidentally (speculating) got pregnant and is embracing her unborn child as the gift it is.  He's just wrong on this.

The Portman remarks aren't the only controversial ones he made this week.

Tucker Carlson took to twitter to use a form of the word MILF in reference to Sarah Palin in what was clearly a joke of questionable taste.  He quickly deleted it issued a humorous apology and the internet had a stroke.  My thoughts about that are here. Short version: Palin supporters need to lighten up and play by the same rules they impose on everyone else.  (Hint: boob-belt, pant suits)

And why wasn't anyone upset that Carlson is a married man, and speaking that way of another woman might be hurtful to his wife.  In my opinion, if there was something for women to be mad about that was it.

Charlie Sheen

My husband joined twitter.  He's not as big a RINO as me.

This will probably be my last post until after Easter.  I'm giving up new/social media for Lent this year.  I'm a little uncomfortable about how much I'm looking forward to it.

The Weekender 2.18.11

2 federal law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty this week. 2 ICE agents were shot, one fatally, in Mexico. The general public is now learning that often our law enforcement officers have to do their jobs unarmed when overseas per the respective countries rules.  Mexico needs to change their ******* rules.

In West Virginia a U.S. Marshall was fatally shot trying to serve a warrant.

P.S. I usually don't discuss this publicly, but I'm the wife of a federal law enforcement officer, so if you're thinking, "boy, she's really got her panties in a bunch today."  You bet I do.  This giant hole in my tongue really hurts too.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9C8EUrtEhfM]

The Green Bay Packers are wreaking havoc in Wisconsin. Not really, but if my beloved Bears are guilty by association with Obama and Rahmbo I can't pass up an opportunity to take a cheap shot at my cheesehead friends and family.

In all seriousness, I detest what unions have become, but I have absolutely had it with "online activists" that are too dense (or lazy) to differentiate between coerced union members and the politics and corruption of union bosses.  I'm the granddaughter, daughter, wife and friend of a factory worker, letter carrier, cop and several teachers who have or had no choice but to play the union game in order to stay in their profession.  I also realize that I lack the character and skill to do their jobs.

My birthplace is Moline, Illinois, home of John Deere, at one time the Detroit of farm implements.  My grandfather spent his whole life working in those factories.  The initial conditions were deplorable, and there was a legitimate need to organize.  But eventually every time my grandparents would start to get ahead, they'd go on strike.  They went on strike just about every year.  My grandfather finally got fed up and crossed the picket line to feed his family, and all hell broke loose.  The consequences weren't just inconvenient, they were scary.

I doubt the tactics of union thugs are as barbaric now as they were then, and I certainly applaud and support any union member that has the guts to take a stand, but I will also come to the defense of hardworking teachers, cops, firefighters etc. who aren't in a position to stick their neck out and also aren't available to spend their day defending themselves on freakin' twitter.

I suppose I have the same beef with this type of activist as I do with missionaries.  Bear with me, it's admirable to be a missionary (another job I lack the character or skill to do), but there is sometimes a self-righteousness that I find obnoxious.  My husband put his finger on it while we were listening to a missionary visiting our church a few years ago when he mumbled, "Well, somebody's gotta stay home and write you checks."  Later on, I heard a Catholic priest say it much better, "some people give by going, and some people go by giving."  I suspect that if you look at the financial records of a lot of union members you would see charitable giving to conservative causes exceed the amount of their union dues.

And then there's the union members with Stockholm Syndrome  (I believe my grandfather remained a lifelong Democrat).  I just ask that we don't rush to lump them all together.  It's not that simple.

Kudos to Michelle Malkin for making a point to highlight the difference throughout the day yesterday.

CPAC now under new management, proclaims creepy yet kind of understandable vetting process. On one hand, some clear guidelines on just what a conservative is would curb the infighting (or at least change what we're fighting about), but like Brittany Cohan pointed out this morning, will the next step be vetting individuals?  I hope not.  I understand the need for this mentality, but this kind of mentality is why there's no place for pro-lifers in modern feminism.

Former FNC anchor, Laurie Dhue, shares her struggle with alcoholism. She didn't intend to.  She talked about it at a private prayer breakfast hosted by Cal Thomas, but a reporter in the room wrote about it.  She admits to not being happy about being outed, but she's now embracing it as an opportunity to help others.  She claims to be available via Facebook to those sharing the struggle.  I adore the way she's handled this.

A local man's women's shoe collection has been put on exhibit... in a museum and everything.

"Uncle Leo" from Seinfeld died.

Oh f***! How could I forget that Rahm Emanuel offered @mayoremanuel $5,000 to a charity of his choice to reveal himself.  I was afraid he was responding with some grand suicidal f****** gesture with all that Alice in Wonderland s***, but Axelrod and Carl pulled him out of the box of baby clothes.  He'll be wrapping up his campaign for m*****f****** mayor of Chicago over the next few f****** days, but he's already won mayor of my heart. WOO-HOO, I LOVE YOU MAYOR EMANUUEEEEEEL!!!!

This is what Tucker Carlson thinks about your bow tie jokes (and his ball chair).

The bigoted skank masquerading and border activist, Shawna Forde, was found guilty of 2 counts of murder, among other charges. The murder of a personal friend over 13 years ago is connected to this story.  You can find the hardest thing I've ever written here:

*I'd like doing this link dumps (everything I know about blogging I learned from Dan Collins, except for the stuff I learned from Jim Treacher).  I'd like to do one every friday, so I spent the week trying to think of a clever name for them ("link dump" makes me giggle).

Then I got the idea to go all Rule 5 (I learned a lot from Stacy McCain too) and slander a different blogger/friend with a sexual, misleading headline every week.  However, that seemed a little over the top, so look for them as easter eggs in the tags.

The Charlie Sheen story no one is talking about

Ginger Lynn

Where's Ginger Lynn?  I've long believed the true love of Carlos Irwin Estevez's life (besides Carlos Irwin Estevez) is the legendary porn star and ex-girlfriend.

Lynn helped him pick up the pieces after Kelly Preston dumped him just because he shot her.  And anyone who's watched her E! True Hollywood Story 10 or more times can see the pure love in her eyes as she talks about their relationship.  Sheen also showed his deep love for her by writing letters on her behalf when she was on trial for tax evasion.

The heart wants what it wants whether it violates long forgotten sodomy laws or not.  I submit that Chuck is simply chasing the love dragon, so to speak.  That porn family?  If setting up a porn compound to woo your true love no matter what Harvey Levin thinks about it is crazy, then yes, Charlie Sheen is crazy... about Ginger Lynn.

And blow.

FWIW here’s my Cairo post

It's 8:46 am on the west coast, and my twitter timeline is full of abortion, anal sex and riots.  Let's talk about riots.

I don't pretend to be a pollsters or political strategist, and I sure won't pretend I have anything profound to say about the eternal turmoil in the middle east.  For the past four days, part of my inner monologue has been, "****'s going down in Egypt.  I should go see what that's all about."

Here's what's going on now, and this dude seems to have a lot of background.  National Review's, Greg Pollowitz, seems to confirm that this is really, really bad.  It sounds like they've had the same president for 30 years, and he's a total jerk.  The kids are fed up, want the keys to the car and will burn this whole place down if they don't get 'em.

Hillary Clinton is in my magic picture box right now, finally addressing this.  Short version: Stop fighting, you guys.  The big kid should give all the little kids teh twitter back.  Bla, bla, bla... deeply concerned.  Thanks, Hill.  She's grown her hair out.  It looks nice.  Not as nice as Sarah Palin's but she's making an effort.

Here's what I know.  I know I woke up to the pitter-patter of my safe, healthy children's feet (which don't really pitter or patter).  I stumbled to the coffeepot then made a b-line back to bed, where I consulted the tiny black box that I'm free to use to access the whole, freakin' world.

Roughly a gazillion of my closest friends were posting a link to an Al-Jazeera livestream.  The scuttlebutt is that we're going to Al-Jazeera because every other news organization thought they could cover Cairo from Istanbul.  Not so much.  Al-Jazeera continues to report as police are banging down the door.

I have to go to Costco today.  I'm making a grocery lists while I have the Cairo footage on in the background.  Surreal.  I'm really glad my Costco isn't in Cairo.  No matter how bad the traffic is, I'm confident I won't have to navigate any infernos or worry that anyone I love is in danger of said inferno.

I feel guilty and grateful and scared and powerless.  I have to go to the store.  We're completely out of juice boxes.

I guess I'll update this when I get back.

One guy lit himself on fire over a dispute about a vendor's license.  Self-congratulatory twitter activists, take note.

UPDATE: Pollowitz has video from CNN up at Natty Review Speculation that military is being embraced by the protesters.  Military coup?

UPDATE 1:31 (PST)

Juice boxes secured.

FNC's Jennifer Griffin: "This is equivalent to the fall of the Berlin Wall in the middle east.

Kirsten Powers has been in contact with family in Egypt.

1:55 3 private jets seen leaving Cairo airport under heavy security, speculation that Mubarek is on board.

crossposted everywhere, updating as updates occur to me

2:28 Mubarek just spoke, fired everyone in the government except the guy the people want fired.  With that logic I think maybe Obama has talked to him.

3:10 My Egypt/Delaware primary jokes are bombing on twitter.

Changes on my home site

Short version:

I'd like to do more general interest topics and someday make some money, so I've moved my blog here, and I'm using my real name.  Cat Fancy is really uptight about not publishing articles by someone named Kill Truck.

*I threw in my maiden name because so as not to be confused with Jennifer Waite the Australian pop singer or scrapbooking guru.  Disaster avoided.
